Having a hard time with a tacoma i have purchased recently. Started out as a no start condition i have cleaned all the ground points in the engine bay and finally got spark. Truck starts up and immediately dies within 1-2 seconds i can cross the pump over on the (high side) and truck will stay running but you cant rev it up fast or it will stall out. I checked fuel pressure coming off the regulator and got 44psi with pump crossed over. No cel light with key in the on position and obd2 just says no communication when trying to connect i have replaced the maf sensor with a denso unit, replaced crank postion sensor and purchased a known good used ecm i also replaced the circuit opening relay as previous owner had busted the cover attempting to fix the truck still no difference in the truck i am out of ideas as i have tested and tried many things i have seen posted to other forums on here. I appreciate any and everyones input on what to check out. The truck is a project of mine to turn into a daily driver it has good bones so i have to get to the bottom of it even if it drives me crazy lol

No CEL and no coms means the ecu isn’t fully awake/alive. Most common causes I’ve seen for this is bad grounds. Check all the power in and the grounds at the ecm. I can dig up the engine wiring diagram for you tomorrow if you’d like

Also, check fuses if not done yet.

I have checked all fuses in the engine compartment and the one in the cab. I have tried to find wiring diagrams with no luck i would appreciate those. I seem to be getting good voltage and ground to what wires i could find on diagrams i found on other forums but most diagrams was half of what i was trying to find. I am a heavy duty mechanic at a fleet shop but this is the first Toyota i have messed with and its really driving me into a loop i usually only get the chance to piddle on it on the weekends so i will keep the forum updated as much as possible with what i find out as i seen alot of other forums never get updates when the issue is resolved.

Tag me during the middle of the day to remind me. the sites not letting me log in right now. But tomorrow it should be up (I hope.. works not fun when you work for the dealer and Toyotas systems down)

Getting power and ground at all those pins. Also applied ground to the pins that are grounds and applied voltage to the ones that should be 12+ volts with my power probe and it made no difference. I can apply ground to the violet wire 4(a) and the check engine light comes on so i do know the light works. Still completely lost on this truck.

Could it possibly be a problem with a junction like this i have circled in the screen shot of the diagrams you posted?

If it were in the junction you circled, you would NOT have power to E5 pin #12 (ECM B+)

    Just a guess
Pretty sure 97 has a distributor

on my 96, I replaced the D. Oring bc of oil leak. I installed the distributor one tooth off. Started NP….then died after 10secs. No CE lite too.

    look/inspect distributor and internals?

The truck is a late 97 it has the 2 coil packs mounted on the side of the engine. The truck will start and idle perfect if i jump the fuel pump and force the pump to run but if i rev it up it acts like its not getting enough fuel if i slowly rev it up the rpms will climb as high you want to go but just bumping the gas hard will kill the engine.

On the DLC connector in the truck. See if you have a ground on Pin #4

The reason I would check that ground is because it grounds the relay for the fuel pump, and it also goes to the DLC.
And you say the scan tool wont communicate. The #4 pin and the fuel pump relay ground use the same ground location.

I believe there is ground on pin 4 at the dlc and there is 12v on pin 16 at the dlc i have the dlc pulled out some as i read others saying the pines get dirty and some are loose so i tried that method with no results

I also pulled the carpet back and checked the plug that goes to the pump and tail light wires getting ground there as well

Kind of be nice to see where we are or are not getting power and ground.

I don't have a fuel pump relay pinout.
But you will have 2 powers with key on, 1 ground at all times.
    And one ground when cranking.

If i apply ground to that violet wire going to cel light it will come on which makes no sense to me considering the violet wire has 12v at the dlc connector

    It is a connector.
I will see if I have a location and pinout.
