LOL Thats what I do anyway. I rarely drive silently. But I wanted Toyota to check and document it incase more owners experience it and a TSB comes out. . Its not loud. You have to be on a quiet road to hear it good. Sounds like a faint audio Harmonic when the truck reaches a certain speed. Not tires though because it does not change with road surfaces. 35-45mph only

With 235 miles I will let things settle in as you say. If its a bad component it will only get worse.

Probably a bad wheel bearing. Just replaced mine. Surprised the tech didn't pick up on that.

Shit. I thought there was a drone you could put on the back of your truck.
I guess the dashcam will have to do

I have not noticed any drone noise although, the 3rd gen is so much quieter I suppose it opens the door to hearing things we had never heard before in a tacoma.

I noticed this "humming" noise for the first time today. I've got ~600 miles on a DCLB Off-road. I let of the gas and it would quiet down, then I'd pick up the speed and it'd be back. This was around 50 mph. This Tacoma is so much more quiet than the 2011 that I had, so it was easy to pick up the tone. Anyone had any luck with figuring out what's causing it?

I don't think this is anything new. I can hear what I believe is this exact noise in my truck from 35-45 mph; faster than that and the transmission whine completely drowns it out. It's really quite faint. If there's any crosswind or if I'm on concrete I can't hear it over the other noise in the cab.

I have sensitive ears though. I used to watch the old Sony TV with the volume at "0" and I could still hear the words clearly.

Side mirrors against the wind... That's my guess. Sounds silly, but I heard it tonight with my windows down and each time the wind gusted, the sound clearly came from my side mirror. I put my hand in front of the mirror and it cut the noise immediately. Did you test this?

Could you follow a friend in another vehicle? That should disturb a lot of air...

Yeah I have the exact same sound at the posted speeds. I think it's wind related somewhere. When I follow cars in front of me, the noise isn't there. It sounds like the mirror or air travelling into a hole. Would like to know what's causing this...

I have noise also but WTF I don't care lol.

Drove with the stock tires for a week and had it. Got the new MTR and still have it. It's definitely only at speed because when I slow down the noise stop.

Thanks for listening to the sound file in the OP
I have PMd three people who have this tone. I suggested they take their trucks in and have service open a service ticket with Toyota on it. My dealer has. Then drive another new one in the lot and see if you hear the same. (I did on two trucks) This sound is annoying, I would not accept "they ll do it" I want to know what it is.

The Cross wind changes implies its Harmonic turbulence bit it sure does sound mechanical.

Yeah I ran with the mirrors retracted, I inserted foam between the bed and the cab and in the openings of the air dam. Sound like 440 Hz

Exactly. I do care because I want to know what it is. Service seemed to be concerned enough to open a ticket with the issue.

I did some tests last night and this morning on my way to get my alignment done and luckily no sounds, tones or vibrations.

Keep us updated on the outcome.

I'd be interested to know if this happens on all 2016's but it's just more prominent on some than others. I've listened for the sound, but I have tinnitus so I have a built-in "harmonic" that's present all the time, so I really can't tell. I've had my wife listen for it but she didn't hear anything either. Then again, I'm not as attuned to trucks as many of you are, so as quiet as the Taco is, it is louder and sounds differently than either my Acura or the Madza 3 I traded. I just want to know it isn't something mechanical.
