I don't seem to have that high pitch noise around said speed. I have a V6 4x4 limited blazing blue pearl made in the baja plant.

Relistening to the sound reminds me of keys(metal) clanging together with a little chirpyness to it.

    Maybe something is loose?

I managed to catch the hum on my 2007 tonight for you guys to compare to. It's ever so slightly lower pitched on mine. It could be because the new trucks have a 4.30 rear end instead of my 4.10, and whatever driveline component is causing the noise is spinning a little faster at the offending speeds. I can't hear it at 45 mph because at that point the wind starts to drown out everything, except that transmission if I'm in 5th. The hum really is a quiet noise and I can see how after Toyota added all that wind noise reduction to the new truck that stuff like this would be more prominent.

35 mph in 4th gear (to rule out my tranny's reduction gearset that whines in 1-2-3-5). Easiest to hear at around 21 seconds or so

"I am located in Jacksonville, Florida. My vehicle comes from Southeast Toyota. I also wonder if all the vehicles that Southeast Toyota gets are from Mexico. Somebody needs to keep a log of who has this problem and where they bought their vehicle. I am willing to do this by having those send me an e mail with the information. I would need the type of Tacoma, where they bought the vehicle, the first number and letter in the VIN. If it looks like all the vehicles are built in Mexico I would try and find out where I can go to test drive a vehicle that was not built in Mexico. I know I test drove 2 other vehicles in Jacksonville and they both have the noise. If we can isolate this to vehicles built in Mexico it would help our situation.

I do not want to sit back and wait for a fix. We all spent a lot of money for this new TACOMA and we should not have
to put up with this. So, if anybody is interested in tackling this problem let me know. I can use the e mail of - bob050346@gmail.com
Please do not send me e mails if you are not a victim of this problem. Thanks"

Why doesn't the service department do this?

    http://www.hurst-drivelines.com/files/Driveline-Vibration-FAQ.pdf

Lower speed vibrations (depending on rear end ratios) at 35 to 45 mph are usually driveline related
and could be an out-of-balance drive shaft or improper u-joint alignment.
    2) If the vibration can be felt in the shifter, it is likely a front of the driveshaft balance problem or a bad u-joint. If you feel it in the back seat or in the floor at the rear, it could be a rear of the driveshaft balance problem or u-joint. However, a bad rear tire or drum can cause the same vibration in the rear. Before pulling the suspected driveshaft, swap the front wheels for the back and back to front or borrow a known balanced set of wheels to test drive the car. If you haven’t balanced your wheels for a while, it wouldn’t hurt to do so to ensure they are indeed balanced, just for peace of mind.

    3) Before pulling a suspected out-of-balance driveshaft, check to make sure the u-joint is properly positioned in the yoke. Some yokes have small tabs that the u-joint caps must be indexed behind to hold the driveshaft in the center of the yoke. If you removed the u-joint caps for any reason, did one of the needle bearings fall over when you put the cap back on? This little oversight WILL cause a bad vibration.

    4) Before pulling a suspected out-of-balance driveshaft, check the runout of the shaft with a dial indicator. If runout is ok (about .012”) at the front and not the back, it could mean that you have a bent yoke or pinion. To check this, record the runout amount and mark where it is high and low. Now remove the driveshaft from the rear yoke, rotate it 180 degrees, re-install it and recheck runout. If it is the same amount and it is high and low in the same locations, the driveshaft is the problem. If it is the same amount, but the low and high spots have changed places, you have a bad yoke or a bent pinion.

Yeah but the noise is not as prominent. Toyota is claiming they all have this "non issue"

I test drove a DC taco today at my dealer which happened to have the same humming sound at 40-50mph. Luckily the sales guy was with me and heard it too, we only drove a half mile because I thought something was wrong with the truck. This truck was a SR trim (Firestone tires) 2wd 2.7L DC taco built in texas.

He didn't BS his away around it. We both thought something was wrong with the truck, so he made me park it in the shop to let the techs look at it.

Oh that sounds like rear Diff. Have you checked fluid level? When was the last time you replaced fluid?
How many miles you have ? Worse come worse you need to adjust backlash on third member.
