Well I guess the howling from my truck and the noise from your truck are from different locations. Mine is wind noise from the mirror 100% Sorry, it was my mistake thinking our noise problems were the related. Just some similarities between the two issues (occurring mph).

Believe me I am trying everything....I figured if I wrapped the mirrors in towels the air flow would change and eliminate the howling, I am 99% sure its mechanical. The Toyota DSOM concurred when he drove Bob's truck. Bob and I are on a tear trying to get this remedied though our dealers and with Toyota USA..

Is the noise very loud? Sorry to hear about these problems, especially with a new truck and all. Best of luck in your trouble shooting, hope the dealers get it straightened out.

No its not. It rides just a little above the ambient noise as a defined tone.

Took mine in this morning, despite not having heard it since Saturday, when I had new tires installed.
And no, it isn't the tires drowning it out.

I'm not convinced it's not a wind effect. When I could hear it, it was louder in crosswinds.
You might want to check a wind effect around your wheel well areas.

That's what I think it is. It sounds like it's coming from the wheel well area, but I'm not sure from which parts. It's almost impossible to tell without just randomly taping things.

The only way to eliminate mechanical is find a Dyno. Run it at 40 and sit in the cab. My dealer does not have a Dyno

Well you can experiment by changing the airflow. Remove the air dam, tape mirror gaps or fold them in, tailgate down, tonneau on/off (if you have one), taping off any other gaps you can think of where the sound may be coming from.

Dealer did all that taping when they had the truck. I fold the mirrors, ram with the hood unlatched, Stuffed insulation between the bed and the cab, rode in the bed listening for the source, Tested without and with Nerf boards and mudflaps.

Only thing left to do is find a Dyno and eliminate mechanical. I can live with it as it's not all that bad but I want the dealer involved in case it was a bad bearing or worse. Every new truck I test drove have the noise. So there's that.

Very odd, I've listened to the sound byte and I don't hear that on mine at all. Not sure whats different about the one's you've been driving compared to mine though.

I took your invoices into my dealer. They said it was a "normal characteristic" Who can blame them? They drove another truck that had the noise and I drove a random truck on their lot that exhibited the same noise. They did say Toyota is likely working on it as they get more and more complaints from the owners. He said it was hard to hear at first but after he zeroed in on it ,it was hard NOT to hear. Exactly. They would not admit openly it is an "issue" but he did hear it and yes it could be annoying.

They closed out my paperwork for now (Still need a copy). They also said when their rep from SET comes they will give me a call to do a ride along. I have confidence they will find and eliminate the noise. But they will need more people who have it bringing their trucks in to the dealer.

Mine makes the noise. But not a big enough deal to have a bunch of hands all over my truck figuring out what it is

I have the noise - and figured out where its coming from. Its the drivers side outside rear view mirror - the sound is coming from where the wind goes thru the joint where the mirror folds and the base holding the mirror. I herd it when my window was open at ~40 mph tried folding the mirror with the noise going and nothing I could do would stop the noise.

Test it, wrap some saran-wrap around the area and go for a drive

Have you tried taping over the gap to see if it goes away?

    Tacobella,

I had the same noise in my 13 trd double cab and heard it once so far in my 16 trd sport. When I'm on I-95 and the wind is coming from a particular direction, driver side upper rail catches the wind just right. Like a howling almost, what's your thoughts on that ?
