Yeah that's what everyone is hearing. We can't locate the specific source though.

My noise don't change except over bumps' I have not been in a windy situation yet. I hope it is harmonic turbulance and not mechanical

I heard it today at 30 mph along the inlet here in Florida. A bit windy and definitely related, being harmonic I really have no problem with it. At 40 I've been listening for what you've specifically described and have not heard that.......yet, hope I don't : ) I have the firestone tires, what do you have ?

I was sitting in a crosswind today and had the exact same sound. I confirmed the whistling/howl is either coming from the air going through the wheel or somewhere in the wheel well. It sounds like air going through the rim to me.

Can anyone confirm that they have this sound with aftermarket rims/wheels?

That is exactly where I thought I heard it coming from too, when I was in my garage.

It just started when my dealer put on OEM nerf bars. Right around 45mph.

Yes Do and open a ticket with Toyota as well since you likely will not get a resolve from the dealer. No one has yet, I have an open ticket. Bob in Florida is looking at arbitration. He is really going after this. Don't blame him. He bought a $40,000 truck. Mine was $33K but I would like to see resolve from Toyota to fine and eliminate the issue.

Mine did it before I did anything to the truck. I wanted to ensure the dealer would not pass the buck.

I brought it in three days after purchase and had a tech ride with me and confirm before Mud Flaps and the nerf bar.

Okay I don't want to minimize this issue for those of you experiencing it. It is a very annoying sound. I had the "noise" for two days but now it has suddenly stopped as quickly as it started. I am convinced it is a little Chevy gremlin blowing into a long neck Corona bottle to piss us off.

Has any checked blocking off the gap between the fog light and the fog light housing? There is a significant gap and with the convex curve of the fog light it could be what is making the "blowing into a beer bottle" sound. Mine did it for a couple of days but now seems to have stopped.

The sound that we are hearing does not come and go. It is always present at the indicated speed.

Interestingly, I started to notice the 440 gremlin about 3 weeks in. I doubt I would have even noticed if not for this thread (thanks, lol), but it is definitely there at those speeds. I have no intention of taking it in, but may tinker with trying to find it. I am the kind that can drive with the wipers on "too long", but I do like a good puzzle. I am convinced it is aero and not mechanical because a bit of crosswind really affects it.

I've got it between 40 and 50 mph but I had it in the 2011 Tacoma I had too. I see it as a built in deer whistle. Keep those damn things from crossing in front of you.

All kidding aside, it is annoying but its just an air gap issue with some component or drain hole. Its probably a frame drain that catches the wind just right and sings the Taco song. Its a pickup, not a Mercedes.

We must find the gap and plug it!

Its a guy thing.... Try to plug every gap only to find out you can only get to some of them. you start filling holes and let us know when you find the right one so we can all fill it.....

    It just got real!

anyone tried to cover up the "turbulence generators" that are on the mirrors i feel this could be the issue

My truck is not making any of these noises. Could hear a mouse fart at 45mph in this thing.

I was just driving in some rainy/cross-winded weather and I heard the "whistle" again. I put my hand over/around the mirror while driving and it went away. The cross-wind might catch the mirror just right and whistle between the mirror glass and mirror body. It's similar to the shape of our '13 Rav4 mirror, but with the different body structure of the Tacoma, it might just be enough to produce the sounds that we all seem to be hearing.

ya all those ridges around the mirror and through the truck are turbulence or vortex generators to help with aerodynamics. these force the wind to 'break' causing less drag

That is a good thing for those who do. The fact that they ALL do NOT do it makes it an issue. I drove two trucks on the lot that had the noise.
