Just picked up new Ltd last week here in Wichita and as discussed above a faint high pitch whirring sound starts at about 35 mph and goes away at about 55. Almost sounds like a singing tire but I doubt it is the michelins they put on my truck. Thought it might be tranny but whether in 4wd or not the sound is there. I'm going to tape the windshield side seams and try to pin it down. A radio will drown it out but it is annoying as hell. I did notice as I drove past a tree line blocking the wind it stopped completely. If I found any solution I'll post it here.

Man I guess I'm lucky mine hasn't done this at all 1200 miles on it now and probably 50 miles of offroad driving

I haven't heard anything like this...though I have experienced the vibration at 2-3k RPM that some have some have spoke of.

Okay update on sound issue. Today we have winds gusting to 30mph in Wichita so in effect I have my own wind tunnel. Driving home from friends house after quail hunting and going directly into the wind the howl, whir or high pitch beer bottle sound (whatever you call it) was clear at only 5 mph. Driving with the wind couldn't hear it at all going 40 mph. I have to believe my noise issue is not related to drive train but something on drivers side catching the noise. I'm going to dealer tomorrow and will let them figure it out. I feel better knowing it is not the drive train. Still annoying but knowing it is a wind distortion of some kind that I am sure is fixable is good news to me.

Saw 20 or so quail and only 1 rooster but only shot a couple of times at both farms. Did not get any as they were flying super sonic with the high wind but we were in some really wooded areas. My buddy brought his 2 German short hairs and we really should have gotten 1 or 2 but we got skunked. Still good to be out in 50 degree weather in December.

Dealer tried the "field fix" on my sound issue by inserting a stiff tubing inside the rubber door seal on drivers side and it had no impact on the sound. Dealer assured me that Toyota has a team hot on this issue but has no idea when it will be resolved.

I discovered another issue at the dealer. The clear plastic instrument panel cover on my 16 Tacoma appeared to have some type of fluid like drip marks on the back side of it about 2 inches up from the bottom across the entire panel. I only noticed it at the dealership with their high overhead lights reflecting the marks through the clear plastic. Dealer removed the clear plastic and found the imperfections inside the plastic so they could not wipe it clean. It looked like someone sprayed cleaner on it and just didn't wipe it off but again it was buried in the plastic. They turned it over to Toyota Corp who will investigate further. The Dealer checked two other 16 Tacomas on the lot and they have the same imperfections. My truck was made in Baja CA so not sure if it is isolated to that plant. They said Toyota wants to figure out if it is occurring at the plant or at the facility that makes the clear covers. I have owned many toyotas since 1990 and never once had a problem. It is a shame to see these issues cropping up on this new truck but I have to believe Toyota will eventually get them fixed. It just bugs the heck out of me to have a $40k vehicle with issues.

Well.. 2015s still have issues that the 2005s had back when they were new trucks, and a large amount of noise related/vibration related issues for consumers were written off by Toyota as vehicle characteristics and the case was closed.

Hoping for the best is nice, but don't forget reality of the past and the likelihood of it repeating in the future.

    Sure.

I was referring to him saying Toyota will fix everything wrong.

That is absolutely far from the truth and nobody should realistically expect that.

A blown transmission prematurely failing, bad wheel bearing off the dealer lot - sure, no problem fixes.

Persistent vibrations or noises? Nope. Characteristics of the vehicle.

If this works there will be an attached photo of my instrument panel showing the distortion at the bottom of the clear plastic cover. I referred to this in my previous post where the dealer found the same issue on other 16 Tacomas in the lot.
