    Hi Everyone,

I have a 2016 TRD Sport. Recently the automatic lights do not turn off when I turn off the truck, close the door and lock it....they just stay on. They turn off when I manually turn the lights off and stay off when I switch back to auto.
    • They do automatically turn on
    • There is nothing covering the sensor
    Any ideas?

    Thanks Everyone!

Probably on a timer which I believe can be set to different intervals...?

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Do they eventually shut off? How long after the the truck has been shut off?

Thought that too. Timer is set to 15 seconds I believe.

I was picking up take out the other night and was waiting for the food for a good 15 minutes. The lights were on the whole time.

Checked that too. All the doors are shut and automatic lights stay on

Wish I could say the same thing.
Honestly I can’t remember how they functioned before this happened. Did they turn off with the engine? When I opened the door? Or after I locked twice. Never payed attention. Just knew they turned off

Hitting the lock button on the fob twice will turn them off immediately. Otherwise you can go into the head unit and change how long they stay on after all the doors are closed. Towards the end of the owner's manual there's a section on vehicle setting customization where you'll see what the options are. Default is 30 seconds but you can drop it to 0 seconds.

Thank you. I have tried all the settings in the vehicle customization options and they still stay on

You do have a problem, it is not the timer settings. First thing I'd check is the 'door closed' plunger, is it still working correctly and giving proper signals? Are you seeing the ordinary door ajar warning? IF so it is probably working correctly, but that switch is part of the loop for getting the lights to go off.

Next thing is the relay, either it is not getting the signal or if it is getting the signal then it is bad/stuck and just not shutting off. This is why when you manually turn it off they are shutting down, you are breaking the circuit differently and either taking the relay out of the equation or signaling it differently. Good luck on your mission.

    Good stuff. I appreciate it!

Didn't think of the door plunger, I will check that out.

I did think relay but I couldn't figure out which relay would be controlling the auto lights. Any idea there?

    Again, much appreciated!

Did you ever find a fix to your BSM not working? I'm wondering if you have some unfortunate electrical gremlins or ECU issues.
Have you made any changes to factory wiring and/or lights? If so, I'd definitely start there.

Yea, I am thinking the same thing.

BSM and driver heated seat both went at the same time. I made a case with Toyota about that issue and they paid half the bill.

Honestly can't remember the issues. Pretty sure it was a wiring harness on the BSM and a whole new heated seat mechanism.

Wondering if anyone else is having the electrical issues I am having or am I just "lucky"?

I believe if you leave the vehicle unlocked the lights stay on. The same thing happens on mine with the switch in the auto position.

I wish that were the case on my end. Turn off, get out, lock the door, lights stay on. Fast forward 15 mins...lights still on.

    UPDATE:

so this morning I get to work the lights were on auto. Still pretty dark when I got to work so the lights were on. Got out of the car and locked the door, not thinking I forgot I have to turn the auto lights off and when I locked the door the lights turned off. Awesome right?!? They turned on when I left work and when I got home they wouldn’t turn off. WTF.

    Going to the shop Monday.
