Hello all, randomly today when I got out of my truck and closed the door, it beeped 8 times consecutively, I couldn’t lock it, and I looked through my window and my dash screen said key not detected, kinda like it was in accessory mode and I shut the door or like it was running. I’m very stumped and not sure where to go from here. Appreciate any advice

I haven’t counted the beeps but I’ve been getting the “key not detected” sometimes lately as well. I usually hit the external handle lock area until it locks- always has so far.

I’m a ‘21 with original fob batteries, wondering if they’re dying, I may swap them this weekend to see if it gets more reliable like it used to be.

    Good luck figuring it out.

It was definitely the batteries which was weird to me since I tried my spare fob and it didn’t work either. Thanks for the suggestion. Hope it works for you too!

It’s the FOB. Try your spare.

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
I've recently found that my truck won't unlock using the handle touch if I've left my phone in the truck. I have to use the fob, that's the only time I use the fob.

Hello everyone... I'm new to the Tacoma World forum and bought my first Tacoma just 3-weeks ago... could it really be as simple as the fob batteries? One would think that they would be new... I'm still learning about all the sounds and beeps... is there a guide to explain what they mean? Thank you in advance...

Which beeps are you referring to?

Sorry, I was referring to the request at the beginning of this string... the eight beeps after I shut my door and walk away... and many beeps of different amounts and sequences... as I said, I'm completely new to this and didn't get a rundown of everything from the dealer...
    Thank you

Did you not receive an owners manual with the truck? You have a '24, correct? Go back and ask for one. I'd bet the salesman didn't know the answers anyway.

Your profile shows a '24, which is a 4th gen. You posted in the 3rd gen forum and odds are high many of these things are different.

Welcome to the forum but you'd have better luck in the 4th Gen forum since we all drive antiques now

I’m not sure any of the beeps are documented because I’ve never bothered to look them up. These are the ones that come to mind.

    - Infinite series of beeps when the door is open and key is in the ignition. Solution: remove your keys or close the door.

    - infinite series of beeps when the truck is moving over 3mph (or thereabouts) and the driver or passenger seat belt is not on. Solution: put both seat belts on.

    - a single beep when locking or unlocking the doors via the key fob. Solution: unknown
