Just as the tittle asked, is there a way to lock the doors (haven't tried much) with the engine still running using the smart key??

I enjoy taking my Pitty most everywhere I go and he loves the ride, but like if I want to run in and pick up x from x real quick, I don't want to cut the truck off, In the summer time it will be even more crucial to leave it running, I have, with all my other vehicles. been able to lock the doors one way or another and leave it running with the HVAC on... I am more worried about someone opening the door to pet the dog and them possibly getting bit (he is protective of me and the truck, at home he is all over anyone licking them lol) or stealing him, then the truck being stolen...

If I could get the freaking remote start that everyone says, (including the under hood sticker), I have to work, I would just get out and remote start it... :annoyed:

I’ve never been able to with the stock setup Toyota has.

I have had aftermarket systems in other vehicles that would allow this , even while retaining anti theft functions , but not factory Toyota .

You can pull the backup key out of the keyfob to lock your doors while it is still running. However, you will need to do the same to unlock the door as well. Somewhat of an inconvenience, but I do it in the summer when I have the dog in the truck and when I need to run into the store real quick.

Before I retired in Sep 2021, I had figured out how lock the keys in most vehicles for customers to pickup after hours, Toyota's included, but not with it still running.. Must be an EPA thingy...

Edited to say, while I was typing this and doing many other life things, I did go out and try the manual key thing and it worked...

So what nucl3ar said 100% works...

You can use pullout key from the FOB to lock the doors manually. I do that all the time.

What I do is usually turn the vehicle off and make sure the air is on and then I will step away and remote start it so the dog is nice and cosy while I go do my thing. I don't usually go very far. I make sure that I can still see the truck from inside that I'm in.

I don't leave any person or pet in a running vehicle, locked or unlocked, if the a/c or heat needs to be turned on.

I don't have remote start sadly...

The truck is always insight, like when I go to WH to pick up food at 3am (don't ask), clear open windows, I'm in the handicap spot, so clear view, I just can't run fast enough to stop someone from just opening the door and taking the dog or truck, but I could see a guy trying to break into it and have more response time... So it is not like I am going into a meeting with the IRS and leaving my dog in a running vehicle site unseen... lol
But I appreciate your concern... Thanks...

Besides, sometimes I just want to leave the vehicle running with nothing in it just because it is 105f outside w/humidity in the 118f range and the temp can hit 140f+ inside the vehicle if not running, yeah it can get hot in July/August here in middle TN...

I’d add a remote start, it sounds like that’s what you’re working around.
    There’s more to a one place that makes a plug-n-play kit that’s affordable. I like N2

Yeah I have my eye on the N2D, and it is in my bookmarks, and right now it is only $299, but I want the OTT and the VTAIL 1st, which the vtail is only $200 right now... :notsure:
