Honestly I thinking coincidence myself, at this point. And I do need to get some soapy water and follow the exhaust back, its just been so damn cold.
I dont think that's it anything like that, but I do need to pull it just to look at it.
Im pumped we made it to the NC, with these recruiting classes coming in I have no doubt we will be in the hunt for the title many years to come.

True, one absolute symptom I've found is the fumes dont come in when re-circulation is turned on, which makes sense.
All lines are good and secure Ill have to check the back of the hood. Ill def keep folks updated, hope I figure it out before AC is needed!

Ok I'm gonna keep this thread updated bc I hate when I'm reading a helpful thread and it just drops off.
So my truck just died one day. Jumped it and found out battery/alternator were done. Fix it and the truck is running but idling rough, like bigly. Check coil packs and there all out of whack from the one we tested at the autoparts store. Replace all four and the spark plugs and the truck is running like a champ but still has the exhaust leak. Start it up yesterday and it just feels weird and finally throws a code! P0456, more specifically it says it's a solenoid on the egr valve. But the code is well encompassing. Now I have direction but don't really know till I do some research.
Still don't get how replacing the valve cover gasket got me here lol

This still sounds like vacuum related. Did you test the vacuum with a gauge?

That is wrong. You do not have an EGR Valve on your truck.

This is what the service manual says:

    P0456 EVAP small leak

    Detection Conditions:

Leak detection pump creates negative pressure (vacuum) in EVAP system and EVAP system pressure measured. 0.02 inch leak criterion measured at start and at end of leak check. If stabilized pressure higher than second 0.02 inch leak criterion, ECM determines that EVAP system has small leakage.

    Trouble Areas:

    • Fuel cap (loose)
    • Leakage from EVAP line (Canister - Fuel tank)
    • Leakage from EVAP line (Purge VSV - Canister)
    • Canister pump module
    • Leakage from fuel tank
    • Leakage from canister

Correct, it has that pump that pushes the air out. The autozone computer did say EGR but the part doesn't exist obviously.

Soooooooooo I feel like a jackass, but when I did this it was dark outside, really cold, and I was a bit drunk. Not an excuse! Had a prof diesel mechanic along side helping, and was really careful where I put the bolts, but not careful enough. I missed a bolt on the back of the valve cover. For some reason an 8mm bolt fit in there for the fix, yet the rest of the bolts are 10mm?? Gonna get the correct hardware here soon. Its important not to do this type of stuff sloppily, is take away here. This is unrelated to my other issue with all 4 of the coil packs being bad, still not sure how that is even possible, but I digress. Thread /

    1. Your truck is 12 years old. Random shit will wear out all the time now.
    2. Drinking and wrenching are never a good pair.
    3. Glad you figured it out. I thought you were going to pass out from CO poisoning while driving with fogged windows on a cold night.

    2. Idk as long as you aren't getting hammered, a few cold ones can really smooth out a job. But its a slippery slope for sure
