I’d do the body work then get a metal cap to keep the top from more dents.

That’s the very reason I got the Mobtown, I’m a fan of anything metal, especially if it replaces plastic.

Honestly @crackils, that's probably what I'm going to do. Thanks for the advice my friend.

It is kind of complicated, if you look down the top edge of your gate, it is not straight across, it has a gradual bend to it, you have to use a shrinker to make it follow the curve.

You could buy multiple tailgates for the cost of what you’re looking to have made.

    Good luck with the hunt.

I tried that with three different materials, unfortunately they all failed due to the previous damage to gate and wear and tear. Thanks though

Thanks, I investigated that option as well. eBay was the most reasonable option. There's vendors that sell new gates but are unpainted. There are pre-painted gates as well that are all over $300. I checked SD junks yards and all of them basically looked as damaged as mine. I checked Craigslist, OfferUp apps, etc. If I chose a body shop, as we all know they would want an arm and a leg to fix it. Then im right back where I started. Looking for a over protective gate cap that doesn't exist once again. If you know how to get a new black 2009 tailgate gate that looks brand new and a heavy duty tailgate cap for under $300, please let me know

Just a thought, why not purchase one of the available tailgate caps and then add a piece of flat stock of the same gauge to it to make up the difference? Finished the same as the tailgate cap I don't think you'd notice the seam. Welding, unless you or someone you know is a highly skilled welder (TIG), would be very iffy at best.......

How do guys like KB Voodoo and Relentless Fabrication do it? They're using simple fold lines, aren't they?

I have the aluminum Relentless reinforcement. It’s straight. There is about 1/4” more gap between the metal and the face of the tailgate on the ends than in the middle. It’s not enough of a cosmetic issue to go, “eewww!” It has to be made that way because the reinforcement has to slide onto the tailgate from the side.

They don’t extend down to the handle and they also don’t follow the curve of the tailgate.

Yes. They have to over hang far enough so they can do a straight bend. We choose to not to the final bend and cut the edge to match the curve of the tailgate cause we thought it looked cleaner.

If that's the case... Did you consider the Relentless Fabrication Tailgate plate and rhinoline the rest of the tailgate?

True.. The aluminum Relentless tailgate reinforcement plate is a straight bend and our tailgate has a slight curvature but I mounted my plate straight over the top by taping the innerlip of the plate with masking tape then sliding it over the gate, taped off where the plate edge meets the gate, remove plate and apply bedliner to area under the plate, let dry then mount plate and grab a beer!

A couple of members have recommended that and I like it. Honestly, it might be one of the final solutions. Thanks @rkarabao
