(SOLVED) Diagnosing popping noise when steering

    3” lift

    Start with the free crap first haha. I replaced lower ball joints, upper uniballs, bushings, tie rods, and CV axels(needed replacement anyways). I laid under my truck and had my fiancé turn the wheel it sounded like it was coming from everywhere. Randomly tightened bolts one day and found the crossmember to be a little loose. Voila!!! Problem solved. Hope yours is an easy fix.

    Ha, yes it is impossible to tell where it is coming from! Thanks for the confidence, I'm hoping torquing anything I can find will remedy it.

    LCA bolts were a little under the 100ftlb so I tightened them up. They weren't super loose but that could be them.

    However, even though I was extremely skeptical I checked other stuff and lo-and-behold, a cross member I added as support for my transfer case skid plate was a little loose. I tried tightening it down and blew the bolt completely off instead. Apparently it was either not made for 70 ftlb or I was doing something wrong :)

    Anyhow, NOISE GONE after those two things! Thanks guys, I never would have checked the cross members for sure. Really appreciate everybody's help and input, this noise had me a little freaked.

    That little bolt not made for 70 ft lbs, maybe half that.

    For future reference for anyone needing to torque lower control arms, they are much higher torque on 3rd gen than 2nd gen. 2nd gen was 100 ftlb, while for 3rd gen it is 135 ftlb for the front bolt and 139 ftlb for the rear.
