Anyone here with a 2.7L on a 2005-2015 ever replace their alternator? Want to buy a new one (not remanufactured) and was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations. Thanks in advance.

Is there an electrical shop in your area that rebuilds alternators/generators/starters, etc.?

I find that using a local shop for that work has always given me great results for a decent price.

On one vehicle where the alternator was a bit tough to access, they removed, repaired, replaced for less $ than a big box OTC reman.

And endorsement for -> pull and take to a rebuilder

Whatever you do, don't buy one from Auto Zone. Their Starters and Alternators are no good. I have a feeling the same applies to Advance Auto and O'Reilley.
In days gone by, I had good luck with electrics from Car Quest, but they've been absorbed by Advance Auto.

The problem with taking it off the truck and taking to a rebuilder is that this my daily...I gotta go to work on Monday lol. My truck can't be out of commision for any longer than a weekend.

I am against buying from Autozone as well Lester...that's why I am hoping someone might know of a good brand so I can just swap.

If the shop is local, most will give you a one day turn around if you plan ahead with them.

Drop it off, get a ride from a buddy and pick it up later?

Well you can use an m2k one for more output, up to 390 amps, however I priced out a 270 amp model from them and it was $1100.

I am thinking Denso as well...I've always heard bad things about remans though...might be my only option though

    This is what id do^^

swap em out, then take your old one and have it rebuilt. Keep it on hand as a spare and youll never have to be in this situation again

There's nothing wrong remans as long as you get a quality brand. I think most of the guys that have trouble with remans are getting the absolute bargain basement cheapest ones

Hmmm...a 2013 with a bad alternator? No mention of how you determined it was bad.
    Any testing done?
If there is a local dismantler that specializes in Toyota, call them up...I'd install a good used one before any aftermarket remanf. unit.

usually a good quality Reman alternator holds up very good, or as said u can take the old one to a starter/generator rebuild shop to rebuild the old one if u got a shop in your area,k forget $400 for a new OEM that's robbery

I agree seems a little to premature, maybe the battery cells are done and cant recharge no more or the serpentine belt, I have basically the same year truck with the original battery and its struggles to start with the cold weather

Truck sounds like it has a super charger on start up, goes away after driving on the highway for about 30 minutes. Makes a whining noise coming from the engine bay area. Doesnt sound like a bearing, bearings are typically high pitched and the sound wouldn't go away. My guess is a bad diode.
