    Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could provide any insight as to what may be the issue. I tried looking through many of the threads but kept running into the same situation: the trucks with the similar issues were lifted...and mine is stock.

Background on mine: its a 2008, single cab, base model with 70k miles. I have only replaced the tires with factory replacements, plus regular fluid maintenance (oil, driveline fluids and radiator). It literally is stock!

Problem: Recently I started noticing a vibrating coming from the truck going over 35 mph. This occurs while coasting as well and stops around 35 mph and lower.

The only major change that was done recently to the vehicle was the recall that was put out by Toyota to replace the rear leaf springs with ones that added another leaf.

I also read it could be a tire balance problem, a u-joint problem, or a drive shaft balance problem...Has anyone else out there experienced the same and fixed this issue?

Not a bad place to start - and it's cheap.

@topcathr @doorsidedown @Blais03 Thanks y'all I'll get the tires re-balanced and have the U-joints replaced...Is replacement of the the U-joints a fairly simple process that most mechanic shops do or is this something you recommend going to a dealer for and paying a little extra?

Check the brake rotors. Mine were cracked and had close to .120 taper on one end and still had a lot of meat left on them.

If you can get a mag base and a dial indicator to check or have a machine shop turn them for you.

Ill take a look but braking seems fine, theres no steering pulsating or brake pedal pulsating. I usually only get the vibration during acceleration, constant speed or decelerating (with or without braking).

Like I said Ill look any way to make sure....thank you!

It's pretty simple. I picked up the parts myself and took it to my local mechanic, buddy of mine owns the shop. I think the dealer will overcharge you for what this is, but truthfully, you won't know for sure until you call around.

UPDATE: Driving home last night I notice turning right relieves the noise (vibration)...does that help anyone diagnose my problem. I'm thinking it may be a tire or wheel issue if that's the case. Please let me know any thoughts...

Was going to say wheel bearing as well. Especially if turning changes how the vibration is happening. Just jack up your front and wiggle the wheels to see if there's any play in them. That will be the easiest test to find out if you have a bad one.

Another vote for wheel bearing. But the right one (passenger's side). Taking a right turn unloads the right side, taking much of the load off the bad bearing, which is why it quiets down.

Experienced similar symptoms as well ... wheel bearing has my vote! But be careful, just because you jack it up and jiggle the tire and there is no play doesn't mean it is not a wheel bearing... mine had no play, but put new wheel bearings on and it went away. Wheel bearing are notorious on these trucks... don't just replace one side either replace both with either jersey or bama bearings/hub assembly on here.

Did you bearing have any other symptoms i.e. grinding noise/feeling when rotated off ground or lots of friction causing it not to spin as freely as the other one?

Mine had no exterior symptoms besides vibration, and turning it would disappear, got bad around 45mph ... lift it in the air it felt completely normal!
