Wheel bearing is my vote. Just had to replace my rear left one 2 months ago. It's kind of hard to do your self unfortunately. Mine didn't have the wheel play most other notice. The mechanic had to use some sort of stethoscope device to listen for the source of noise. Once changed the buzzing/vibration was gone. Good luck. Like other people say, the front ones seem very doable.

Thank you all, I had a suspicion after the drive last night it was a wheel bearing...seeing as how its a 4x4 Im guessing this could be a pricey part...Thanks everyone.

If that was the case, wouldnt having it in 2x4 or 4x4 change the noise?

If you hear clicking when you are turning a certain direction I'd check that side

I noticed mine when it was out of 4x4. I also would check your carrier bearing

My carrier bearing and ujoints was the first thing I changed. The vibe went away from the back but the front still had a bad vibe. It ended up being the passenger side front bearing and the same side cv axle. now its got normal noises for a 2000 tacoma.

    a bunch of new/used parts....and some skids.
just jack it up and jostle and spin the wheels. you'll hear bad bearings for sure!

if you're going to replace one, just replace them both.

had the same vibey/rubbing noise at anything above 35-40mph
bought Timken bearing module and Timken gaskets on RockAuto.com for ~$60. Brought it to the mechanic across the street from my house for another 65$ he removed the old bearing module and replaced it with the new one. . left the truck on jacks, after work the bearings were picked up and installed in 15 mins.

have fun man! grab a new cotter pin while you're out so you don't have to re-use the old one.

    Best of luck!

Yup. He properly greases the bearings, which is something I don't think others do.

Edit, and if it turns out to be wheel bearings do yourself a favor and replace both at once. I'll never understand why people don't do this.

Ya'll, my mechanic buddy and I lifted it and engaged the gears at his shop on a lift...used the stethoscope like device and found the front passenger wheel bearing was shot and the driver side was already making sounds of wear....must have been from the East Coast WX and the roads from my time in Puerto Rico (if you want to call those roads)...any ways thanks to everyone who helped diagnose it. As for the bearing costs he has a parts guy that gives him discounts for Japanese cars since that's what my mechanic buddy specializes in so we got them for $90 each and ready to go...stay tuned for the final outcome...should be a DIY with his help this week sometime. In the mean time my Taco is grounded and I'll have to dust off the Camaro. Thanks a bunch y'all.

    All,
Problem was wheel bearings! I followed this mostly for removal of the old ones and installation of the new ones... ...the cost was $91 and some change a piece and did both my fronts...I took a few pics that I will upload later but they aren't too helpful, just to show my project a bit. Just follow the website to see what needs to be done if you ever need assistance replacing yours. Separating the hub from the bearings was a pain since my truck was exposed to East coast roads and beaches of Puerto Rico. THANKS AGAIN!

NICE! must feel awesome to finally have a nice quiet truck!

I guess Taco bearings are a man-bear-pig for almost all tacoma's to get apart.

Yeah they aren't the easiest yet you dont need an ASE cert haha...just have to have some patience, time and WD-40...maybe a hammer.

As promised heres some pictures (descriptions below image):
    oldbout2.jpg
    Old one out

    oldbout1.jpg
The plastic cage was cracked...looks rusty as well

    newb.jpg
    Heres the new one...OEM brand

    CVout.jpg
First major step was removing the nut holding the CV in place...then pull CV from the back.

    CVout2.jpg
Remove dust shield and bearing/hub assembly...

    oldbon.jpg
easiest way was to bolt it back on (without dust shield) and pull hub off bearing...here was my result.
    pressnew.jpg
Press the hub back into the new bearing assembly and bolt it back together....its not bad unless your truck is rusty.

Note: my cousin had a bearing (rear) in his 2006 single cab 2.7L 4x4 go out as well. Seems to be common in these trucks if you live or have lived on the east coast with them. He was living in NC.

Thank you all who helped me figure this out...if anyone else needs help while this repair is fresh in my mind, please don't hesitate to ask...its fairly easy but takes a little bit to figure out some parts...again follow that link I provided for a good detailed breakdown of steps. Take it easy y'all.
