Yeah, sorry, I meant howl when I said whistle, same sound. This is surprising and confusing, as I thought we were sure the holes were the culprit. I'm going to ask a stupid question, are you sure they are still plugged? If so, then looks like there may be more to this mystery.

In all fairness, it is a whistle, not a howl. Actually, a Helmholtz resonation is the correct descriptor.

Zackly. Air passing over an opening to produce a sound is a whistle. That's what it is. That's why they call a whistle a whistle.

Thanks everyone for the excellent info - I'll buy the plugs mentioned above and drill a few small holes in them for any needed drainage...

So i actually came out to my truck when there was a crosswind parked at my shop, and as i was getting in, i heard the noise ever so slightly. Leaned down into the fender and sure enough, coke bottle howling. Went and picked up the necessary nylon plugs (bought double) and drove back up to my shop, coke bottle sound the whole way. Crawled underneath, popped em in, printed off one of the pictures from this thread, circled the plugs on them and wrote in the size, drove back down the hill with zero coke bottle howl and brought the extras i purchased along with the picture to my dealership. They were stoked. They said damn near every truck they've sold in the last few months has been in complaining about it. Theyve even done the weatherstripping trimming, but i told them this was THE FIX for that sound. Thank you so much

Howling is gone after using the nylon plugs. Thanks everyone!

I've had my truck into the dealer FIVE times trying to get this fixed as its brand new and on warranty. They have yet to fix it, I'm now going to bring it into my shop at home and block every single hole I can find on the damn thing. There is no reason a new truck should sound like a kazoo.

Why would you do that when the fix is noted on the first page? It's simple. Plug 2 holes with grommets on both LCAs. Done.

Also because this noise doesn't seem to be the same on every truck, my old 2011 it clearly came from the windscreen. This on seems like that as well but nothing seems to work fixing the windscreen. I've taped everything up and played the elimination game and it seems to be the moulding vibrating on the drivers side but Toyota fixed that and it still occurs. Even with what seems to be a clear fix for one guys truck that isn't always the case, however I plan to try them all until it works.

It's been colder here, wet and windy the last few days. I did hear the sound ever so faintly. The mud must have washed out of the holes in the rain.... I am hesitant to Plug the holes and trap moisture inside.

I'm not sure their fix will be any more advanced then the fix currently discussed here lol

What my husband used to plug up the holes. I still have the noise. May not be the best thing to use, possibly still causing the whistle with the air flow.

[SOLVED] Howling noise between 35-45 Not really:annoyed:
First the work put in was very good. I taped up my control arms exactly as shown.
I still have the same awful wind noise. It comes from between the cab and the bed.
I have a 2016 TRD off road access cab. Help

Then it's a different issue. I only plugged one of the holes and my howling went away. My noise was apparently coming from the control arm.

You have a different issue. For those of us who had the exact 440hz howl in the Sound clip, The hole plugs worked.

I could see how these would still cause a whistling. I think you really want solid surface plugs.

Is trapping moisture inside of this apparatus by plugging it a good idea?
