So i just looked and each lower control arm has 2 plugs. One on each end. The 3rd hole sort of in the middle is wide open. Do you all have all 3 plugged on each lca or just the 2 end holes?

I came across a tsb that states to plug all 3. I will need to compare that picture better to what i have. Maybe the part has changed between 2016 and 2019?

Curious to know if this noise can also affect the 2nd gen Taco... I have this howl... Same speed range, constant like blowing in the beer bottle.

    LED's so far :-/

Just got a 2019 and hearing the same thing....Sound is exact, almost sounds like my dryer...I thought it started after I removed the front the bottom front spoiler so I pretty much dealing with it because it looked so much better.

Will look into these plastic pieces.!

Thanks for your research and solution! This is one of the reasons I bought a Tacoma, huge passionate community and aftermarket on parts.

I’ve torn one of my factory plugs off while wheeling. It definitely causes a whistle noise now. Now to fish the plug out of my LCA. LMAO

I put duct tape over the other holes on both LCAs and howling went away. I noticed the holes were different sizes. Does anyone have the size plugs for all the holes on the LCAs???

Just found this a few days ago and so glad I did as I was also dealing with an elusive howl between 25-45mph. Went as far as taking my truck to the dealer a few months ago and they first came back with the exhaust and then tire noise during tech ride along. One would think they'd be familiar with this TSB?

Checked and found I was missing two of the three plugs on drivers side which is where I thought the noise was coming from, and missing one on the passengers side. So, with a lot of scepticism I plugged the holes and the noise was gone...mostly. I then plugged the two front top holes and no more noise. Super excited as this has been haunting me since day one. THANK-YOU OP!

Good guys at the dealership that want to do the right thing so I'm going to stop by and let them know this TSB resolved my truck's noise.

Thought they inserted plugs in from factor since the issue back in 2016. I also inserted plugs in my 2017 when I first purchased in 2016 for said howl noise. Drove me nuts for a week

One would think so. Welp, they installed three of the six on mine... My howl was sneaky- occasionally non existent and loud on rare occasions. I have a very low tolerance for abnormal noises, occupational hazard, so this resolution is the highlight of my 4 months of ownership.

Hello everyone. I’m a new member of the TacomaWorld. I recently just bought my first ever Toyota coming from a very long Ram run. I can confirm that, by removing the air dam, I did get the “howling” noice. I replaced it out of curiosity and sure enough, it was caused by removing the air dam. I figured this out before being introduced to tacomaworld by a very good friend that owns a Tacoma. I’m very excited for the journey with my new taquito.

This noise started suddenly on mine yesterday: On my truck it sounds like a light wind howl on the passenger side near the mirror. I got this truck in late June and have always been impressed at how quiet it is in the cabin, especially for a 4x4.

The only difference in conditions is: temperature: It has been in the low-mid 50's the last few days. I did a 200 mile + round trip to Vermont this weekend on highways, back roads, mountain roads, and sketchy dirt roads (no off road, so nothing tweaked, banged, etc) in mist, light and occasionally moderate rain, but the temps never went below the mid sixties. Not a sound other than the normal road/tire and driveline noises. No howl. Parked it outside for the night. Took it out to get gas mid-day yesterday: it's howling just like the audio piece here! Gave me a sick feeling.... then I found this thread....

Quick fixes I tried one at a time: Rolled down passenger window and others indvidually; rolled down all the windows, put them up/down in all different spots; adjust pass mirror every possible way including folding them in and out to every possible position and angle (glass and housing); ditto on the driver's even though I was positive it wasn't there; Finally: removed the antenna. No change. If I could have done it easiliy and quickly, I would have removed the passenger mirror. I even removed the bed mat. (I know, embarrasing: OCD...but I was starting to be convinced it was some dam bearing in the driveline or tranny....maybe even a tire)

Anyway, when it stops raining again, I'll get under there and tape over the holes and report back.

I have a 2014 SC SB that I purchased in June. 104K on the clock. The noise on mine started yesterday out of the blue. I'll be performing the "tape" fix no later than the weekend and I'll report back if it fixed it. Not definitive, but at least you'll know if it worked or not on my 2014.

Update: I went out and applied the duct tape fix, took a test drive slowing climbing to about 55 mph, and the howl/noise is gone. It is much warmer here today: in the mid-upper 60's: much warmer than yesterday and the days previous. I can easily remove the tape and test drive it again when it hits the lower 50's again. Since the lower control arms are different on my 2014 than the 3rd gen's only the 9/16s plug will fit on the lower front hole. For the other's (which are smaller diameter and wont take a 9/16s plug, I'll stick with the duct tape or cover them with a flat layer of black 3M body putty. Note the small drain hole at the very end of the LCA.

What's amazing to me is that even though the two generations have completely different designs for the lower control arms, and different sized holes, both have the same noise issue and this fix cures the problem on both.
