Hey all! 1999 Toyota Tacoma, automatic, V6 with 120,000 miles. Timing belt has been changed, as well as all other regular maintenance. Belts were just changed today in an effort to solve this issue.

The sound (video) appears to be coming from near the transmission. Kind of a clangy noise like something is bouncing around inside the bell housing.

    Help?

I cant get my phone to play the video. Is the sound coming from the tranny, or is it coming from the heat shield?
Crawl under with a pipe/tube when the engine is running. Put the pipe/tube to your ear and then against different spots. You can narrow it down to a smaller area. If it seems to be coming from the bellhousing, it could be a broken flex plate/loose bolt(s)/bearing/debris in TC.

    It's not the heat shield.

I had a good one some time ago welds inside the converter broke impossible to see from the outside .

Could be the muffler as well

just about drove the poor women nuts because no one could find it but everyone could hear it

Then noises have a habit of sounding like they are coming from some place else.

Could be a cracked flex plate or a bolt backed out of the flex plate. Take the inspection plate off and see if you can see anything in the bottom of the bellhousing.

Definitely rotating noise of some sort, I’d bet on loose/cracked flexplate as a few others noted previously. Also curious to see what you find.
