My 3rd Gen Tacoma is emitting an extremely loud rumbling while spewing smoke out of the exhaust pipe. Sounds and smells like an enriched muscle car but in a bad way.
I drove the car to work, left it under a covered parking spot for 12 hours, and then started it back up after work. When I started the car, the rumbling noise was immediately apparent and I smelled oil, which I attribute to the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. Idling it for a bit longer does not change anything. I didn't want to idle it too long in case the engine oil system is fucked.

My Tacoma has only 39k miles, is a 2017 model, never been in an accident, and no mods at all. I am the first and only owner. Normal engine oil, coolant, power steering, and even windshield wiper fluid levels. The car is also out of my Toyota warranty period.

    1) What the hell is going on?

    2) Will Toyota as a company do anything about this shitbox they sold to me? It's out of warranty but this is completely unacceptable, especially at 39k miles. This Tacoma has already had a super early dead battery, fucked up seat belts, a Bluetooth system that only works properly 50% of the time, and now this issue which has rendered the car inoperable.

Thanks and I look forward to your answers.
Video of the issue below from tonight. I'll try to take a better video during the day.

Edit: not so much a shitbox. Catalytic converter on driver side was chopped off.

Sounds like your cat got chopped.

Take a look at your exhaust underneath by the trans.

There should be a missing catalytic converter.

Edit: The smoke coming out the exhaust is odd tho, maybe you blew a exhaust gasket of sorts, or they tried to take your cat and got spooked before finishing?

Either way take a look underneath, something is off.

I second the exhaust issue. At least where I live, catalytic converter prices are up and they're getting stolen. Trucks and higher sitting vehicles are especially suceptible. Definitely not something that sounds like Toyota's fault. A 1st gen won't help you.

Why would your 60k mile warranty be up?

Depends on the first "in service" date. Either way, I don't think that 60k covers exhaust issues (I could be wrong). It definitely won't cover stolen catalytic converters though.

Exhaust is fubared. Either by collision/road hazard or by crackhead theft.

If the converter was removed there would not be any exhaust coming out the tail pipe.

Sounds to me like a camshaft position sensor is stuck, causing the engine noise and smoke and smell. possible advancing the ignition timing to much. Can you get a hold of a scan tool to see if there are any pending pcm codes ?

Hey folks. I checked under the car and the catalytic converter is there and seems totally fine. Just verified that it's not steam coming out of the tailpipe, it's actually a thick white smoke and smells like enriched gasoline. I'm thinking this is either a blown head gasket or some sort of oil issue (?). More pics and videos on the way. Will try to get underbody videos or pictures.

There are four cats total. Two on each side. The aft ones are often stolen.

Getting white smoke and raw gas smell not out of your tailpipe would be very weird.

Can someone provide a picture or diagram so I know exactly what 4 things to look for under there? The exact catalytic converters on the 3rd gen Tacoma undercarriage?

And yes, I started it up like normal. No, I didn't do anything different or quirky to the car.

laying underneath, trace the exhaust system starting from the tip towards the engine, see if anything is missing or if you see exhaust coming out of somewhere it shouldnt be. with the noise like that, id say theres gotta be a hole or somethings gone
