Voltage drop on the battery should not go below 10vdc. Below that, you will have an issue.

the coils and plugs are all back in.

It was hard to jump in my tight garage. Cables wouldn't reach. I finally got a break in the rainy weather to push it out and buddy's car to try and jump it.

After hooking up the cables and waiting a bit. The starter will turn but slowly and only a couple turns as if the battery is weak of course.

So now looks like I need to go get a battery or wait until morning and go get a free one from Toyota dealer as the truck is under warranty.

Read your paperwork carefully before attempting that. I'd be surprised if a battery is covered, since it's considered a wear item.

    Hopefully I'm wrong.

Ok I will read the paperwork.

I have read of others having luck with a warranty battery replacement on here. Prob depends on the dealer and the guy at the desk.

Worst case I go buy a new battery tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for jumping in so fast and helping out. You guys are awesome.

I'll update the post as I figure it out.

Btw when I pulled the plugs I saw that I put dielectric grease in the boot.
Here's a pic of a new plug I took out before I cleaned it. I shouldn't have even used the grease. Just cost me time.

Yes, the grease goes on the boot, not the connection.

Battery will have some sort of warranty, may only be pro rated. A phone call will clear that up, then you can determine whether you want a Toyota battery, or another brand.

Any ideas why my OEM battery would fail like this at this point? I would think an OEM battery would last longer or I'd at least get 3-5 good years out of it.

Batteries can go at any time, especially if you are in an area that's hot. I have had them fail in 18 months, and last 5 years...go figure...

Had a battery in my POS Buick last 9yrs before it went critical. Then had one last a year and a half. Its all about usage and charging.

This. My wife's Rav4 puked the battery last winter (Massachusetts). We owned it 6 yrs at that time so no surprise, till I pulled the old one and learned it was the original..10 yrs old. I've had batteries I bought that have puked in less than 2 yrs as well..it shouldn't happen but it can.

Maybe my stupid mistake caused the battery to sh*t itself.

On the bright side, now I can change a set of six plugs "properly" in about 30 mins or less.

More often than not they don't. My wife's may have just needed a jump but I knew it was 6 yrs old at least, so cheap insurance. That it was 10 yrs old solidified it especially in a New England winter.

Not that is matters to your problem , but why were you changing plugs at 30K miles? My one truck says to change at 100K.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
OP, my battery just crapped out at 2 yrs/31k miles. Replaced under warranty. No warning at all. Worked fine. Then 10 minutes later I jumped in and nothing. Lights in dash came on then faded away. No clicky no nothing. Tried to jump with a portable jump thing and it didn't work. Tried off another truck and it barely turned it over with no start. It took a professional grade portable jumper from a tow truck to start it. Took it to the dealership and they said it had a bad cell or whatever. An hour later I was on my way. I think Toyota got a bad batch of batteries.

The Tacoma maintenance schedule calls for the spark plug change at 30K. It's in the mantinance guide. I read on some TW posts that the plugs are designed with a 30K life efficiency and I also read that dealers denied warranty claims post 30K miles if they had not been changed.

It's also part of the 30K service package the dealership sells along with, rear diff change and throttle body cleaning. Oil, lube, etc.

I also wanted to learn how to do it myself since I never have and its relatively easy on these trucks. Figured I stay on schedule with Toyotas requirements and save the labor cost doing it at home with the radio on and a cold beer close by.
