Well for me it did! I've tested my fix multiple times now, mainly when stowing things in the back, and seems to be holding up great so far.

Mine broke last year, but the only one that gets back there is my youngest daughter. I need to fix it.

I don`t think I ever moved the right seat other then to slide it all the way back.

I had no idea it even tilted front like that I am guessing all the extended cabs work just like that

Thanks for this write-up! Mine just developed this problem and I didn't want to take the seat apart without having an idea of where to start.

Reviving this as I am currently having a similar issue.

investigating my passenger seat on ext cab 2000 prnr I found the snapped tension cable.

I didn’t even know it had this fold and slide feature because mine wasn’t working. I was investigating the seat for a different issue: the recline position wont hold when given some weight (like someone sitting in the seat or pushing it from the back) you can hear the teeth passing eachother but clearly not locking well.

upon finding this snapped cable I thought that could be the issue - not pulling the teeth together as firmly as it should? Did anyone else with the snapped cable have the same recline problems?

Any thoughts? Does this cable only relate to the fold and slide feature and my reclining issue is something else entirely?

also—did anyone with the snapped cable ever look into a straight up replacement cable? Have not been able to locate it in any seat diagrams..

Replacement cable possible only 2 ways.
1.purchase from Toyota entire right side seat mechanism, about $500, and about 2 years ago only 3 left in USA.
    2. Find a seat at salvage yard or Craig's list, or TacomaWorld BuySellTrade, or similar, but no one has ever found one with the cable intact. In any case they will sell nothing less than the entire seat.
Those who have fashioned new clamped ends on old cable ultimately have reported failure.
"Tilt and slide" mechanism is poorly engineered; fewer than 1 in 10 that I have inspected are intact.
My tilt and slide is inoperable due to cable end detachment. My tilt and slide functions do work independently, and the recline position works normally, so I think your recline problem is not related to the cable issue.

Maybe I’m way off here but has anyone considered trying to use/modify a fully new cable such as this one for a later 4Runner?

maybe the mechanism/length/tension na would not be compatible, but just a thought? Looks to be the same idea

    thanks

if you need a replacement cable, perhaps retrofitting a bicycle cable would work? I have no idea. I think I let out some slack on my original cable to get more length at the end so I could apply the repair.

Interesting idea thanks! I will look into that. Or perhaps mimic your method since it seems to have held up... Nice work.

Unfortunately seems like this all won't even fix the issue that I was really hoping to solve which is the seat back recline position not holding... You have on thoughts/experience on that issue?

It probably has something to do with that big coiled flat spring, but I have no idea to be honest

My passenger seat foot pedal is also not working properly and the same cable is busted at the end.

I'll be following suit since I cant find a replacement cable anywhere online, well prpbably not the JB weld but the rest

Hi, my ext cab 2003 Tacoma passenger seat works as it should, but sadly missing the little rubber type foot pedal. I’ve searched diagrams but no luck on a part number to order. Maybe I should go old school and contact the dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -Scott
