About 77 miles east of Bend on 20. Google "glass butte". Plenty of Obsidian to be found between there and Steens, just pick your color. Glass Butte is essentially made of Obsidian, you can fill your truck with it in an hour and it's free and legal.

Oh duh, I know what you are talking about now! We hiked that trail over there by Paulina Lake, I wanna say it's called the Obsidian trail or something? But I had no idea you could take that stuff, cool!! And I'm not sure if we've been to the specific spot you're talking about, will have to look that up. Thanks for the tip DP! :)

By the way, speaking of Obsidian, is anyone else a huge fan of Obsidian Stout by Deschutes? Mmmm, so good. I love how we have a bunch of lushes on this thread!! :D

No word last night guys. Really hoped to get a call that the starter fixed it. Either it didn't or maybe they didn't get time to put it in yesterday? Thinking I'll call or stop by today and see what I can find out. Also thinking this was our last stab at it, and she will be coming home later this week, fixed or still broken. Can't afford to keep trying to fix the starting issue anymore. Besides, who knows? Unless the engine is taken apart, we really won't know for sure, but it sure seems possible that the starting issue could actually be the least of our concerns - maybe the engine itself is about to explode? Really, about the only thing left is the engine itself. Just wouldn't make financial sense for us to pay someone to take it apart. Guess we'll have to get rid of the Taco or drive it in town only, while wondering and worrying about the engine. Wow, suddenly I am reminded about how just truly sucky this whole situation is. Damn. Might be the shittiest thing that's ever happened to me.

Will post whatever update I get, whenever I get it. Thanks for reading TW. Have a good one.

    Might be fixed!!!!!!!!!!

Just got a call from current mechanic and he is buttoning it back up to have us pick up tonight or tomorrow! He said he thinks tightening a ground wire that the engine guys left loose at the engine block (said he had to remove skid plate to get to it, if that helps explain which wire) was the biggest contributor to fixing it. Anyway - sounds like today they are going to button back up and drive it some, then I'm sure start it a bunch, then I think we're going down there this afternoon to talk with him more about the truck in general, as well as what charges we'll dispute through Visa with the engine mechanics, then possibly bring it home. So I'm still not allowing myself to fully celebrate YET. We shall see how it behaves in the next 24-48 hours, which is what he said too.

But I am just a little bit happy right now though. :D:D:D:D:D

P.S. Many of you called ground wires, more than once. Can't even remember who all said that, but congrats to those that did! Will be incredible if a loose ground really truly turns out to be the thing. Wow.

Keakar, you are very sweet to say that last part, but unfortunately I think you are incorrect. ;) Y'all learned me plenty, but I'm not sure if that stuff is going to actually stick in my head or not! Might fade away, to make room for the stuff I really AM an expert at, like mastering new cookie recipes or planning our next road trip! :)

    Random questions:

Is Cardone A-1 an OEM brand of power steering pump for Tacomas?

How about OP Parts? Is that an OEM or aftermarket brand for a fuel filter on a Taco?

    Yeah.
A-1 Cardone does a lot of rebuilds, not sure if they also do new stuff. On something like a power steering pump, you'll get a much better deal on a rebuild than new. I have used their stuff before, never had an issue.

    Not sure about OP.

I kept saying check the grounds! Occam's Razor and all that. I also mentioned that these things usually turn out to be something simple and silly. I hope that was it! Like sands through the hourglass . . .

I know TenBeers! I DEFINITELY remember you emphasizing this a lot, but I couldn't remember who else had also, so I didn't wanna piss anyone off by giving you credit and no one else. But I totally remember you saying that over and over. You just might be the winner (or one of them anyway!), good job! And thank you for all of your help!! :)

Ha ha ha, your posts crack me up just about every damn time man!! :D

C'mon, admit it. You're just excited to have an excuse to do this: :drunk:

:D Hell, so am I, so who am I to point fingers? :D

EDIT: Except I can't do that yet, gotta stay sober cuz I might be doing some of this [IMG]later today, and not in the piece o' shit loaner car either!

Driving POS loaner car drunk and wrecking it = who cares.

Driving beloved Taco that has cost us our future earnings for many years to come = VERY SOBER AND CAREFUL.

JK. I do NOT advocate driving drunk, or even tipsy, under any circumstances ever, just had to take advantage of the joke potential there. :D

A loose ground wire could explain the issue, and it could be why it wasn't showing an error code.

I have used plenty of A-1 parts, and in certain areas of the country, they run their own line of autoparts stores and I am pretty certain there are some A-1 boxes of Dodge truck brake shoes on my shelf.

I am looking for the next status report...
