Just brought the Taco home for the last time (last time related to this long winded fiasco anyway). Starting like a boss!!! Right @Jayman405 ? :D

Took some of our shiniest pieces of glass obsidian to those 2 generous fellows at our new fave dealer, as a reminder for them that the road trip they were collected on was made possible by them, as well as all future Taco road trips. Really thought the Taco would never leave town again before we met them. And now? Planning the Eastern Oregon Toyota Tour!!! Who's ready to do this????
AND, I put @noahpete on the spot and got him to agree to go on the Toyota Tour with us!! No backing out now man, the whole internet is watching!! Let's do this! :) Not sure if I was able to convince @Jayman405 , but I'll keep working on it. I've got persistence on my side, right TW? ;)

Also got him to agree to be our mechanic forever. And when I asked that question, I made sure I had witnesses ;) He told me he'd probably only be available there ~30-35 yrs, then after that we'd be screwed.

Can't believe this is officially the end of this long, long journey. Wow.

    November 30, 2014 = piston hole.

    January 2, 2015 = starting problem.

Sometime in April 2015 = accepting the reality that maybe NO ONE will ever be able to diagnose and repair the Taco's starting problem, and it will be forever doomed to a boring life of errands in the Portland metro area, which is far below any way for a Taco to live.

May 15, 2015 = realizing that not only do I have a truck that I can trust again, and a fabulous new mechanic (that we will NEVER EVER :ballchain:let go of :D), but I also have a bazillion new super cool friends across the country with a shared passion for TACOS!!!!! and 2 seriously AWESOME new friends right here in my own little town, that just happen to be brilliant TOYOTA DEALER TECHS!!!!!!!!! Life is sweet for sure. :burnrubber:Might be time to finally open that bottle of champagne tonight. And change the thread title, something I really never thought I'd get the chance to do. Here goes, get ready for the thread to explode with new viewers, it's officially changing to SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's celebrate TW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's finally over!!!!!!!!! Cheers!! And let's get this Toyota Party started y'all!!

Some of the goodies from the Taco to the guys that saved her (yummies and doggie bandanas for Noah & Pete in Toyota colors (of course!):

PS: @noahpete , sorry about the slightly disfigured 4Runners. :D Making the homemade 4Runner cookie cutter didn't go quite as well as making the Taco cutter did. I think the 4Runner cookies look a bit more like one of those weird cars in the 80's  ....can't think of the name of them, you guys know what I am talking about? Anyway, at least with those massive tires, they must be having some fun even if they are a little odd looking, right? ;)

how I wish I could get blasted with you guys, I feel like we are family we spent so much time bonding over your sick baby.

I got to do all the inspections and go over the new truck top to bottom with everything so I know all things that should be done are done so it lasts another 15-25 years for me. you have to assume any used truck nothing has ever been done to it until you do it or confirm that it has been done.

I have so little time even for that though as im back into my house reno (painting outside at the moment) then im stressed over the lemon case which is about to be resolved on Monday (I hope) so I do need to get shit faced drunk but too much to do, too much to do, way too much to do, but I will get drunk at the card game tonite.

then im stacking parts for a power mirror, window, and door lock conversion (who the hell buys trucks new without power or cruise? I mean really!) so because somebody paid extra to NOT have that standard stuff installed, its costing me $1,000 in used parts to put it in. so far I have the new steering wheel and cruise switch installed so I have cruise now and I bought a bunch of used parts to install. the mailman brought semi-new looking door panels and switches, power door lock mechanisms, power mirrors, and power door wiring harness for both doors. then i'll have to make a wiring harness for power supply and to go across the dash for passenger side.

    Yeah.
Woohoo! Congrats, now time for some fun! I love those TRD truck cookies. But at first I thought those bandanas were some kind of man panties, which I wouldn't put past many of the Oregon folks I know. I just pictured a hooting, drunken guy wheeling at high speed wearing nothing but polka-dotted man panties with his name on the front. That was weird, don' t do that to me again.

OK, WTF TenBeers? Get your mind out of the gutter dude! How can you turn something so sweet and innocent like a doggie bandana into something so, well, NOT sweet and innocent? The visual you created there.......yikes. Nightmares for me tonight. Now if I could just stop laughing...........

I have to admit though, you are kind of right about "Oregon folks" - I would not be the least bit surprised to see someone in downtown Portland wearing something like that as their only article of clothing  Which is why we very rarely venture down that way, just a wee bit too trendy for our taste....:D Haven't found a hangout catering to Toyota off roading/Waylon lovers down there just yet  PS: don't tell Koditten I said that, I am trying to convince him and his wife to move to Oregon. Thinking he would not be into the downtown Portland scene either

Thanks for the congrats man! And thanks for hanging in there with us!! Be sure to drink at least 10 beers tonight in honor of the Taco's new beginning!! :taco:

I know Keakar, I seriously feel like I've known some of you guys my whole life! You are definitely one of those people. You guys have witnessed me going through some seriously f'ed up stuff the last 5 months, and helped me through it every step of the way. Thanks man!

Sounds like you are getting your new rig all fixed up, that's cool! How do you like it so far? Hope you get that lemon case resolved soon too. That stuff is no fun to deal with for sure.

Well, one of these days, we'll just all have to meet at DP's house, since it's the most centrally located in the US, and do the ultimate nationwide Toyota tour!!!!!! :burnrubber: I don't see any reason to check with him first, do you guys? He won't mind I'm sure. We'll just camp out "Eddy Griswold" style in front of his house and do this: :drunk:

So i'm not going to read 159 pages of this thread, but I would be interested in a short overview of the problems you were having and the fixes for them. I assume the injectors and stuff was for the extended cranking? What was the diag/fix on the damaged piston/ missing spark plug electrode?

You ain't the only one, brother. I first thought, WTF did I miss! They look exactly like bikini bottoms on my phone. I'm relieved to be informed otherwise.

You guys only have 8 years until we move out west. I'm not sure if I'm on board or not. Time will tell.

As for the rocks, they are nothing but sex stones to me. My wife is big time into the healing power of different stones. I get nothing from the things. Of course, I'm an insensitive bastard.

I call all stones "sex stones", They are just Fucking rocks.

I do believe some stones have some powers, but I just don't notice them, hence the insensitive part.

    It's time for a drink...or to VII.

This tread made me paranoid about my injectors, I put a can of cleaner (Berryman B-12) in the gas tank yesterday.

The trip to SE Oregon sounds fun, keep me posted perhaps I can go.

Oh c'mon, just read the 159 pages, only ~75% is a bunch of nonsense! JK, glad to give you a quick summary. :)

We blew a hole in piston #3, and were told it was due to failing injectors. Also, the electrode from that spark plug was gone, as if it went through the piston. Different people have proposed different theories (faulty plug, etc), but ultimately the conclusion was the same - replace the truck or replace the engine. We chose the 2nd one, and thought we chose a great place to have it done. They got the engine in then emailed us that the truck now had a problem starting (excessive cranking) when it sat for ~1/2 hr after last running at full temp. We didn't have that problem, or any kind of starting problem, before the engine swap. After several attempts to have the problem repaired by the engine mechanic (who said he would repair it), he blew us off and we spent ~3 miserable months testing things, replacing parts and praying someone would figure it out. 1st mechanic after engine guys had to leave town for ~3 weeks due to his brother's passing, he thought it was a fuel issue but he'd had our injectors serviced and 2 that failed were replaced with rebuilt injectors. He was close to getting it I think, he knew something was not right with the injectors, he kept saying his noid light results were off. Next mechanic tried for nearly 2 months and was convinced it was a spark issue, not fuel. Then our new forever mechanic put a borescope down our intake manifold and saw the injectors dripping, even though they were passing on the machines. So we replaced them, and no more starting issue. Hurray!!!!! Finally!! :)

Is that the info you are looking for? Are you having an issue with your Taco? If so, best of luck!

Was a pleasure to help you close this chapter in the Tacoma book. While you haven't been shy with praise, we appreciate all you showered us in.

Headed to Oregon City in the morning. Playing in a pool tournament at Midway. Hoping a nice little karma boost with get us to Vegas with a victory tomorrow.

Cool thanks for the info! I do have a slightly longer crank time when it sits for a little while, but it's not too serious I think. A buddy of mine mentioned it the other day but I'm not too worried about it. Plus I was just curious cuz I read this thread when u first started it but didn't keep up the whole time...

How much weight can that topper handle? Most of the roof top tents weigh around 100 lbs. Then after two people and some gear you'll be pushing over 500 lbs. Most of the toppers can't handle that much weight.

OK, you are cut off K. Not sure how you got that meaning out of the rocks, but whatevs. I think you had a few too many J & B's when you posted this maybe? You and 10 beers need to clean up your minds. WTF?!?! :smack: Stop ruining the bandanas, I worked hard on those!!!! I'm going to take away your privilege to man the alcohol tent on the Toyota Tour if you keep the gutter mind. Which means no extra secret dips of the tour's beverage stash for you...........and I know you won't like that!!!!

Alcohol = motivator for Koditten. We can use this against him on the Toyota tour if he gets out of line you guys. :proposetoast:

    Mmm, just finished my 3rd J & B

    Thanks Jayman!!

Good luck at your tournament tomorrow, although you shouldn't need it, since you should have some seriously stellar karma going right about now. I'm thinking you could wear a blindfold and still win with the karma you've got!!!!!! What time is it at? When would the Vegas tournament be?

Eric & I used to be pool sharks back in the day.....well, fine, me more than him. OK, actually I don't really know who's better. :notsure: OK, fine we are both decent. Ish. Fine, we both suck. :D But we should all go out and play sometime! I'm sure you'd put us all to shame but it would still be fun! :) Do noahpete and his wife like to play pool?
