Don't blame you for putting it off. I suspect we'll both be needing knees/hips eventually, with all the dumb stuff we've done to abuse our bodies over the years. Totally worth it though, that's the fun stuff! :) Hope she has a speedy recovery DP :)

OK, here's a weird question for you guys:

Any ideas how to keep Dolly (our 4 legged kid) cool in the truck on hot days when we go off to play for a few hours? She can't keep up on long hikes anymore (pretty severe arthritis in a bad front shoulder, surgery won't help) and she's not allowed to attend rodeos with us for some dumb reason :D This is why in recent years we haven't done much Taco camping, we opt for cheap hotels so we can leave her sprawled out in an air conditioned room watching animal planet and eating treats while we go enjoy ourselves guilt free. But with the enormous Taco bills, we want to do more camping (free!) and less hotel stays for a summer or two. A camper would be great, because then we could have some kind of cooling in there for her if we wanted to leave her for a bit, but then it's back full circle to the cash thing. There's gotta be some kind of wacky thing we can piecemeal together for keeping her cool enough in the canopied bed for a bit, right? Not planning to try that when it's 100 out, but maybe when it's 70's ish outside if we can think of some way to KEEP it the same temp inside there. I know when it's 70 outside, it's more like 100+ inside a vehicle even with cracked windows pretty darn fast. We've got sliding windows on the sides of the topper.....wonder if we can rig some kind of cooling fan set up, and check on her periodically at the rodeo........

Just realized there's a teeny tiny little town rodeo over in eastern Oregon this weekend - those tiny ones are always the most fun, where they really let 'er buck! And serve up plenty o' beverages  and junk food! :hungry: AND just realized Eric's got Monday off for Memorial Day! We are now DYING to figure this out so we can go on our very first eastern Oregon trip post engine swap and see some barrel racing too!! :) Will do a hotel if we have to, this is just too tempting to pass up.....finally going to have some serious fun on a Taco road trip, woo hoo!! Sunshine and Waylon and my Taco :) Oh yeah, and Eric and Dolly :D

Here's a pic of the cinnamon roll trailer as it sits now. It is part Tacoma now, ya know. I took the tires off my old Tacoma to use on the trailer.

Painting your canopy white will keep it cooler inside. My white SnugTop stays relatively cool in the sun. I got the whole truck in white for travel in sunny areas.

Great idea, never thought about that!! Glad I asked about this before painting the topper! I'd rather keep it cooler than worry about it matching. Might go for white now!

I hate say anything negative, but painting white is not going to make much of a difference. I have a white cap on the Tundra. It gets hot! It might not be as hot as a black truck, but it will still be hot.

Have you thought about the softtoppers? All the sides can be rolled up. I know I want one for my Tacoma.

Might be a stupid question, but can something like that run on a cig lighter when the truck is off? Would the battery drain pretty fast?

well when its not you spending the money, its easy to just say "buy all new injectors" but in truth, if I were in your position with the price they cost, I probably would have needed convincing to spend that green vs trying the less expensive route. when I kept telling you in the beginning to buy all new injectors, it was with the mindset of my 4 cylinder where a full set of 4 new oem brand injectors only costs around $150-$200.

by the way, what was the damage for the injectors? I don't recall if you ever mentioned the price tag for them.

    not quite

a black truck gets hot enough to cause blisters on a sunny day and yes white or any color still gets very hot but black or blackish colors get as much as 20 degrees hotter. theres a big difference between ouch that's hot and holy shit it burned me.

    $1200.

But we got a hell of a deal on some seriously awesome diagnostics and labor, so we are definitely not complaining overall. Quite happy indeed! :D

A neighbor's friend just suggested using some sort of white stuff they paint RV's with to paint the topper white? Anyone know what he's talking about?

its a rubberized coating they use on trailer roofs, its not something you want to put on a surface you are going to be using for anything because it never gets fully hard and things that get real hot can stick to it sitting in the hot sun

Oooh, all the injector talk just reminded me, that guy that serviced them in January is supposed to call me today with his results. Kinda forgot about that.

OK, here's the beast.........er, I mean topper. Ideas for how to elevate it to back the truck under it, maybe using the stone wall that goes along those two sides somehow?
