It starts correctly now, thanks to the best dealer tech ever.
We've got a decent tent, good sized, works great. And an air mattress too. Well, we have a single one. Used to have a queen until Eric spilled antifreeze on it  We used to use that set up all the time back in the old camping days years ago.....

It's just recently that we've been hell bent on trying to set up the truck bed for sleeping. I think because we've started exploring areas that have rattlesnakes and bears and shit. So it feels safer in the truck than a tent. But screw this, see previous post. You are right, sleeping in the bed of a skinny ass 1st gen just isn't a great time no matter how ya set it up, it's a total coffin feeling and that is freaking weird and not fun. So f*ck this, motel time for us!! :D

there is another option, just build a floor frame (looks something like a platform bed frame looks) to carry in the truck then set it up and put the tent on top of it so your off the ground and free from snakes and whatever but still free spirit camping and not sleeping at the hotel like morons, really if you sleepin at a hotel you may as well drive home and sleep in your own bed at night.

    something like this: http://www.outdoorlife.com/articles/joseph-truini/2007/09/build-portable-platform

@keakar , YES!!!! You are here!!!! We must mess with Koditten!!!

We gotta "teach" him all the meanings of the TW emoticons!!

    OK, I'll start:

The broccoli guy is indeed a green banana with a green afro koditten, and it's best used when you are really, really mad at someone on TW and want to emphasize how pissed at them you are/how much you disagree with them. It's like the ultimate evil move. You'd simply post the broccoli guy, then you'd REALLY BE SHOWING THEM WHAT'S UP.

    Example:

Keakar: Koditten, you are an ass!!

    Koditten: :broccoli:

Keakar: Wow, he really got me good. :pout:

Screw you man, nothing wrong with hotels!! Yes, they are a waste of money. But they make traveling way more pleasant. Not gonna drive 10 hours home to sleep in my bed after hiking for 8 hours.

Hmmm, I like your idea though. Get creative with building something custom for it...........could be onto something here Keakar. I like it.

Fuck. Just realized I haven't done a damn thing with the topper today. Left off yesterday when I ran outta tape. Ran 5 billion other errands while getting tape, and now the day is shot. I hope the tape glue-y crap doesn't stay on there like Keakar said it might.........better go work on it........

building a portable camping platform is easy.

    portable 8ft x 8ft platform building instructions.

    materials needed:
    2 sheets 4x8 plywood 1/2" thickness
    8 2x4's stud length long
    2 2x4 8ft long m(cut to 4ft lengths)
    box of 3" deck screws
box of 1 5/8" deck screws
    4 door hinges

    instructions:

take 4 2x4's laid out on the plywood spaced evenly and screw one of the 4ft 2x4's added onto each end so you make one wall panel then turn it over and screw the plywood onto it and repeat to make the second wall panel. now lay then side by side with no gap to form your 8ftx8ft square and screw a door hinges with the 3" screws in the middle seam to join them together. the hinges should be about 8" in from the outside edge then space the other two hinges evenly about 3ft apart.

that's it, your platform is made and the hinges let it fold up easily for transport, but it will weight about 60 lbs on average, not much but not light weight either. and you can adjust the size for your needs and even not use the hinges at all.

for the legs just bring some cinder blocks with you to put under each corner (laying flat) and one on each end of the hinge part (6 in total) or you can use milk crates or 5 gallon buckets or whatever you want to get the height you desire but if you do use something slippery like plastic then put a rag on top so it doesn't want to slide. you now have a snake and critter free zone lol.

the "stud" 2x4's have 3" cut off of them short of 8ft so when you add another 2x4 on the top and bottom it becomes 8ft in length again

and the best part is eric only has to make the 2 cuts on the 8ft 2x4's which don't have to be a perfect cut so no worries about skill required here or you can get home depot to cut them for you for 25 cents per cut
