Thinking about getting brave and taking a teeny little brush to touch up some rust spots on the hood with that stuff.

I know, the paint's not a perfect match, or even close probably.

But will it look better than a rust spot? Yes.

And will it cost anything, except me farting around in the driveway some more on a beautiful day? No.

Are the odds low that I will make things look worse? Yes. Well, hopefully. :fingerscrossed:

    Doing this. :D

    You might be surprised...
The stuff seems to kind of "flow" as it dries and smoothes out to hide roller marks.
Being in direct sunlight might hinder this though :notsure:

I don't know, this stuff was thick and seems to be drying very fast. I expected it to be runny after talking to some people about it, but it was thick. Not like Kilz thick or anything but it's like it's just a nice thick coat of something good on there. Not runny. I did notice a couple drip marks where I had too much on my roller and wasn't very careful on some edges, but otherwise smooth sailing as far as runny-ness.

you could also consider doing a strip across the front similar to a bug shield.

just mark about 3"- 4" back from the front edge of the hood and tape it off then roll on the whole front edge as im sure its full of little knicks and chips there anyway. its just paint and can be sanded off later if you ever want to get the truck painted. and use a small thin roller for this job to avoid putting it on too thick.

I think this would give it an almost "its supposed to be like that" look to it

Just did some touch ups on the hood. They look like crap. At least the rust spots are covered, so I suppose it looks better kind of, but there's no question it's an extremely amateur job.

    Going to consider Keakar's idea.

At least the topper looks awesome!! We'll be riding it style!! Found the little TRD thingy that goes on the back of the cab the other day. Eric had it in the shed! I was like, dude, put it back on!! Why the hell not? Free detailing = :D

Hmm. OK, I see what you are saying. Just use paint to roll a strip at the front edge. Hmmm. This could actually work, and look better than a bunch of little spots of that paint randomly scattered around. Hmmm. Seriously considering this. Of course now that I put the paint and supplies away for the 2nd time. Might be worth doing this though, thanks Keakar! :D

One more coat Jen, paint early in the day, in the shade, should turn out really nice!
And you can do the hood strip at the same time!

    OK, here's a crazy idea.

Can I Rustoleum roller the Taco? What if I took the hood off and rollered it on? And the tailgate? Then maybe the rest of the Taco if those parts go OK? Is this completely insane? I am so shocked/pleased with the topper, I can't stop staring at it!!

you can do it, no need to remove anything, just tape it off and paint, just remember to put paper under the seams to catch any drips or runs and add some racing stripes too if you want. paint is paint but rolled on paint has a dull shine and not a reflective shine, if you want a shiny finish you have to spray it on. plus painting this way the paint is softer because it doesn't contain any hardener so it scratches easier since it has no hard shell surface protection to it.

I've seen several vehicles roller painted with rustoleum.
Minimal effort will get you a 15ft paint job.
Lots of effort can supposedly get you a very quality paint job (link I posted a while back) but I've never witnessed that.
You pretty much know exactly what it'll look like now that you've done the topper

Thanks guys!! Might go for it!! So happy with how it looks!!

And there are definitely at least a few places on the Taco that I'm going to try the Rustoleum, where I know it will be super easy to apply nice and evenly, and there's no way it will look worse (my rule!) because it looks so terrible now.

The top edge of the tailgate has this nasty strip of rust going across it. Rollering that will be a blast!!! It's annoyed me for so long!!

    :D
