nice log splitter set up, I haven't used the screw type, just the hydraulic ram type. My hydraulic is a 26 ton, but hasn't been used in years. The mauls are good for clearing fallen trees and building bonfires to burn stumps. The shop has a potbelly stove, and we have been using coal lately...

    Morning TW!!

Had a lot of fun building some cool stuff yesterday, thinking of listing some of it on Etsy to sell maybe. Built little rustic wooden boxes out of scrap wood, a giant cedar planter, and a wooden outdoor table. :) Pretty pleased at how they all turned out!! Nothing fancy, pretty simple stuff, but lots of fun and building useful items out of basically garbage wood is so super satisfying to me. I want to get some kind of stenciling kit to write things on the boxes and maybe some kind of engraver or wood burning tool to experiment with. Will share some pics soon of what we built :D I know, I know, the smartphone thing........:sorry:. We are actually starting to compare phones and plans to upgrade FINALLY to smartphones. Might take us 5 more years to figure out what we want  but we'll get there............

Hey!! You guys can teach me about the ins and outs of all that!! We'd want to stick with Verizon, because they have the best coverage, which is important enough to me in remote areas that it's worth it to me to pay more to stay with them. But they have five trillion smartphone plans and 5 trillion phones. We'd be going for some free or nearly free phones - nothing fancy, at least for a starter smartphone as we learn what we need/like, and I'm guessing we would not text much (if ever) but would probably take advantage of the photos straight to the web feature A LOT. :D This issue seems to come up for me at least 10 times a day :D And looking things up on the internet occasionally would be nice. Plus the GPS feature would be nice - assuming we can learn how to use it

What else is there to consider besides talk time and those things?

Any general smartphone/plan pointers? Anybody have smartphone plans with Verizon and have specific things they like or dislike?

I have a very smart phone, it cost $15 and it just makes and receives phone calls, and that's it. (yes its a flip phone )

you don't need all that fancy crap on a phone, its just for making phone calls, or at least it should be

    Wrong!

Once you get a smart phone, you will wonder how you managed without it. I thought the exact same thing, resisted for as long as possible, caved and have been very happy with the smart phones.

There are no games on my phones, so don't think it's about that. Being able to organize your calendar is my number one love of the things.

I know, I've felt exactly like that ^ for a very long time.

But it's becoming ridiculous with all the devices we haul around that could be replaced with the phone! When we packed our electronics bin for our last mini trip, we realized the camera, a GPS for the truck, a GPS for hiking, IPODS, laptop, phones, and the 5 billion different charging devices and wires for each item could be replaced with 2 phones and 2 chargers. That's it.

And the amount of time we waste on trips packing and unpacking that crap and making sure all those different items are charged and ready to go each day is just silly. The convenience is starting to win me over. :D

We haul a laptop around on trips to occasionally look something up on the web, and to unload pics from the camera, so that we have space on it to take more the next day. Pretty sure a smartphone would have more than enough photo storage, and obviously allows web access, so we probably wouldn't even have to keep hauling that POS laptop around. Which is great, because we'd have to replace it with a new laptop soon if we needed to keep using it (it's old and has XP on it still). And a new laptop would cost more than just getting the damn smartphones in the long run, especially considering all that other garbage I named off will wear out and need to be replaced eventually.

Might be time to take the plunge Keakar. I'm with ya though, it's a tough leap to take...........I like simple things, and am kinda stuck in my ways. So embracing all this new technology is a tall order for me. But gotta do it sooner or later, and thinking it's gonna be sooner.... :D

You got some of the best teachers here.

If I could offer a suggestion, think about using Verizon's pay as you go program. Buy a used, 1 year old phone off CL and activate it. You won't get roped into the upgrade program that everyone else is. I pay $45/month via auto pay with my CC. I get cash back money at the end of the year, so my bill is actually a bit less.

If you stay away from interactive games and videos while away from Wi-Fi,you don't need a lot of data.

First recommended app: Google Keep. It is awesome for keeping running list of random things, like your trips. Here is a screen shot.

What do you have for a phone and a plan? What do you like/dislike about your phone and plan?

If you were going on vacation, would you still bring your camera or would you rely on your phone completely (are photos really as good or better? is the photo storage on the phone massive?)

Do you store music on your phone? Is that something any smartphone can do? Does it vary from one phone to another, like cheap shitty phones only store a little, and vice versa type thing? Here's a really brilliant question - do you have to hook your phone up to a speaker to play music on it???? :D I really know nothing about these phones........

Maybe I need to call Verizon and ask some questions. I want to try to learn what I can on my own first though, because I don't want to feel like maybe they are "talking me into" a phone or plan that's more expensive than what we ACTUALLY need. Ya know?

OK, I'm calling them. Big step for me, taking the 1st step towards a smartphone. Yikes! Don't have to say yes to anything yet, right? Maybe I'll just scope out the options and report back to TW then you guys can help me sort out what's what.

    Sound like a plan? :D

    Wait, that's kinda scary.........this is a truck forum, not a smartphone forum.......hmmmm.......

    Morning TW!!

Many SM's have removable storage, just like a digital camera. In all honesty, I don't think I can run out of pic storage. 32g on this phone alone, plus I have 64g card as well. I have the Tacoma service manual on the card, so the manual is always with me.

Oh man. You got my attention on that one. That would be NICE. You all have seen how I am about being sure the Taco is all good now, especially when away from home. Having that manual accessible at the touch of a button all the time would be SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, you could almost call it a necessary safety expense!!! :D

I'm good at justifying things, don't you guys think? :D

Around 10 yrs, modded the crap out of it!
Custom springs, removed 4spd trans, built a 5spd installed it, pulled the 20r motor, installed '88 22re fuel injected, + wiring harness, had to splice that in!
    That truck went anywhere!
