I would have a 4 runner if the wife would let me. I fucked up and got her a truck. She loves her standard cab 4 x 4 so much. She said she would never own anything but trucks from now on. She compromises and let's me have extended cabs and 4 door trucks, but no SUV's!

still, the truck you decide on many have a history from that area.

I thought it was any where that it snowed and they salted the roads?

Busy, ran the crap out of the 11 AC today, cleaning out my office...put stuff in temporary storage will awaiting new space, working out of the house until then. My engineering technical library has only gotten heavier over the years, and the 5' wide drafting table takes up space! It does OK with 100 reams of copier paper and 30 boxes of books...

my 4 top choices would be:

    white taco
    blue taco
    gray taco
    gold taco

that's a nice variety of 4 completely different trucks

note - red taco was excluded from the list because Jen is prejudiced against red

black taco was excluded from the list because unless you live in Alaska, black just gets too damn hot no matter where you live

    Good point keakar!

Mostly in our snowy areas and for most western states for that matter use cinder as a traction device. In a heavy frost situation we use a chemical (not sure on name) that's sprayed on the road. I'm sure its not good to have on your rig but we don't rust problems at all, unless you've been driving on the beach lots!

Ugh. Now Eric is trying to talk me into fixing the Civic. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He ALMOST had me convinced to at least price out what all it would take to DIY the repairs, but then I realized, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! Not even willing to start down that road, no no no no no!!! It's time to lay this car to rest for god's sakes!!! Yes, it would be the cheapest route in the short term, but not in the long term!! The engine is leaking oil pretty badly, so surely it can't go like that for long! Yes, it's been leaking oil for years, but the quantity is increasing as the miles accrue. And I'm sick of worrying about it! Big picture, the car is near the end of it's life if not already there, so it's time to let go and invest that $ in something else. Dontcha all think? As you all know, I'm a huge fan of repairing old vehicles. WHEN IT MAKES SENSE TO DO IT!!! This is NOT one of those times, IMO, with the laundry list of mechanical/safety repair costs and issues that are just getting ridiculously old to put up with when we can afford better, like the lack of A/C in there, or the broken sunroof. That sucks this summer, as we experience ongoing record hot temps in Oregon!! That crap was funny for a while, but now it's just getting to be stupid. I want AC. And a working sunroof. And an engine that doesn't spew oil everywhere. Call me  but that's what I want. :D

Now I'm just trying to convince him that we need to buy a 2nd Taco. :D

Jen I'm curious, why have you lost sight of the 4runner idea? I find them to be a lil easier to find in good shape lower miles blah blah. Then you still have the capabilities of the taco but the suv-ishness of the runner. Being someone with two tacos I suppose I've got no room to talk. Iam how ever trying to get the GF to get rid of her, get this...outback...and get a third gen runner though.

Seriously. Help me here guys. I cannot let this happen. It's one of those things where we need to just not spend even a DIME on it at this point, or it will become that slippery slope of $20, then $50, then $500.............no. NOT HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what we want!! But because we want a 2002 or older, we very rarely see any with ~100K or less. And I don't want to get something that has been seriously abused and has crazy high miles. So I think if the right one came up, one of those rare gems where someone took good care of it and didn't drive it much, but it's maybe a little banged up cosmetically or needs basics like tires or brakes or something easy, and the price was right..........we'd pounce on it right away. I'm 99% we really would, because we both consistently agree that if we could find that, we'd be stoked. I keep looking, but I only find ones from really shady used dealers that have super high miles. Gotta keep looking and be patient. :)

no need for a/c when you can just dump ice cubes in your bra and ride very cool like that.

    how about an 05 4runner for $14,500 with 119k miles? http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ned&sortDirection=undefined#listing=111550481

    or an 02 with 136k miles for $12k http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...ned&sortDirection=undefined#listing=116613647

trouble is, 4runners are suv so they are going to have high miles or an insane price. your not going to find an affordable fair deal like you will on a taco

Morning TW! What's happening in TW on this fine SMOKE FREE Thursday morning? :)

We're still duking it out over how to proceed:argue:. Eric is still pretty hell bent on pricing out parts to fix the Civ , and I am still pretty hell bent on a 2nd Taco or a 4Runner :angrygirl:.

Will keep y'all updated as this breaking story develops!! :D

Today's agenda includes making a strawberry blueberry pie, complete with fancy cutouts for the top. Pics later today (stay tuned @Old School ! :hungry:)

Also might be time to mow the weeds. Does your lawn look like that @Mod ? Short, brown, dead grass with knee high tall weeds everywhere? So ugly, compared to how lush and pretty green our grass normally grows.

And there will be plenty of online vehicle shopping/research. And grapes. :hungry:

Happy Thursday everyone, weekend's almost here, woo hoo!

PS: Been getting even more enjoyment out of driving :burnrubber: the Taco the last few days, with the realization that the Civ is fading fast. Appreciating all the things I love about it even more. Having moments of overwhelming gratitude just driving down the street, thinking about where we were 3 months ago with the whole nightmare, and how nice it is to be where we are now with it - a place I started to think we'd never get to. Point being, might be due for a mini day road trip up into the mountains this weekend :D

OH yeah, one other thing I keep meaning to tell you guys - because of what we went through and how much I LOVE the Taco even more now as a result, I automatically assume ALL other Taco drivers must feel the same - right? Meaning, if I am constantly thinking about how great Tacos are while driving, surely that's what every other Taco driver is constantly thinking about too, right?

I see other Tacos, admire them, then basically stare the driver down, like, please, catch my eye so we can exchange a meaningful look of "Tacos rule" or even a super cool thumbs up/cheers:cheers:!!!!!!!! But most of the time, shockingly, they aren't thinking the same thing as me at the same moment and it doesn't go the way I planned it in my head!

Do you guys have this problem? Am I the only person who is damn near constantly thinking about how much I love my truck when I'm driving it? :D

Pretty long days since Monday. Been building a deck. Ours was falling apart. I ripped that bastard out. Was gonna replace it like for like, but said eff that! Go big or go home! 12 x 50!. I pretty much hate carpentry work, but it's not so bad with a couple good knees!

I am impressed on how much beer I can go thru. I think it just evaporates, yeah, I'm gonna go with that.

I got my new hood today, it wasn't supposed to be here til next week.
