ok there is a HUGE list of issues you need to address with your civic but the biggest RUN LIKE HELL from it is the high mileage and its going to crap out much sooner then later. at over 225k miles don't spend a penny on it you are not forced at gunpoint to spend on it because after its all fixed you will need a new engine or tranny or maybe both. im shocked the engine hasn't failed yet already.

if you wouldn't consider buying a civic with 225k miles on it and the big list of all the things wrong with it then why in the hell would you even consider throwing money away fixing things on a car that will most likely be in the junk yard by this time next year or at best, the year after that?

just to remind you, and add up the money each item will be plus add 25% more to it for "whatever happens" when fixing that issue.

your list of the civics issues:

So that would mean we'd need to fix:

    Brakes problem - now fixed
    Multiple engine oil leaks
    Nearly bald tires
    Both CV boots trashed
    A tie rod boot
    Compliance bushings
    Alignment
Rattling Cat Convertor, assuming the Honda tech was right about that being the noise (Eric still thinks it could be something more serious)
Crumbling duct taped driver's seat (only recently covered by a seat cover)
    No A/C
    Broken sunroof
Intermittent wiper setting hasn't worked for years - really fun to have only super slow or super fast in Oregon, a state that has drizzle/light showers 75% of the time (you wouldn't believe what we spend on RainX! )
No drink holder, since my now 12 year old dog ate it when she was a puppy.
    Paint is bad. Very bad.
2 doors. I have dealt with 2 doors for 17 years, when all 17 years I wished I had 4.
Least favorite color. For 17 years.
225+K miles, 22 yrs old = what will break next, and will it be tomorrow or the next day? Oh yeah, and remember how old & high in miles our other vehicle is? Not a very secure feeling to have 2 that are this old/high in miles. Stresses me out. We NEED something newer.
And most of all? I need a break from spending all of our free time figuring out how to fix vehicle problems!!! It gets stressful. I want to spend more time enjoying vehicles :burnrubber::mudding:and less time worrying :argue: about them.

looking at this list I see a solid $2000 being spent and maybe an extra $500 on top of that if eric is right and its more then just the cat and you need a new exhaust system.

and the worst issue of all is the broken drink holder, that's the deal breaker right there lol.

but seriously, the answer to weather you should fix a car or get rid of it is a very simple one, if you wouldn't buy your car (or even if it was given to you for free) in the condition its in and you trust and like the idea of expecting to fix all these things then DONT FIX IT!!! listen to yourself for christs sake your brain is saying its worthless yet your heart want to throw thousands at it a few hundred at a time? your too smart for that girl, don't give in to the easy way out and throw your money away to se the engine lock up just before christmas.

you need the reality check :smack:

your just frustrated by the decision making and want an easy out but fixing the civic is just dumb and not a smart move if you need dependable transportation.

one thing to keep in mind with the oil leak is there is always the chance you might make the leak worse by trying to fix it. not trying to poo-poo erics skills but more then once, a simple gasket replacement has gotten much more involved then just that.

Oh c'mon, you know you just like messing with me!!

Plus, I have to say, I definitely DO REMEMBER a post that YOU made recently..........something along the lines of agreeing with Eric about fixing the Civic........hmm???

It's a tough call. Pros and cons to both options.

    LOL,

Okay I wasn't around when all of that was posted.

Yeah, I'd get out of that Civic sooner rather than later.

I'm just trying to figure out how they are breaking the levers. 6 Toyota trucks, over 30 years and I never had to replace any door levers.
