so why not fix the dishwasher? its like anything else, find out whats wrong and see what the part costs before rushing out to buy a new one.

besides, your the wife so aren't you the dish washer? :crapstorm:

dish washers are THE biggest waste of money and utilities there ever was. you have to wash the dishes before you put them in there or it gets blocked up and floods your kitchen, then it uses your hot water so your running the water heater more plus all the electricity it burns all for what? nothing ....

and most people think it sterilizes the dishes but nope, its just hot tap water and those germs and bacteria you think its killing are still alive and doing well after the dishwasher has finished running.

so what does it really do for you? it only rewashes dishes you already cleaned and it doesn't do anything more then that for you

I could of wrote this. Only thing different is I do the dishes in our household. I routinely get my hands grimy, washing dishes helps get rid of the ground in grime.

We actually removed our dishwasher and installed a mini freezer in its place. Don't miss the dishwasher at all.

Have-a-heart traps and a garbage can full of water. Population reduced.

I caught a racoon raiding the garbage can at our previous house. I chased it off and it came back. We had a face off in the driveway, hissing racoon vs. me with my pistol finger in the trigger guard. I had a safe backstop behind the racoon, I still regret not shooting it just cause. Shovel and into the meat scraps recycling.

You guys are hilarious. Wash the dishes BY HAND????????????????????? Really? No way!! Not happening. We dirty plenty o' dishes, run that thing about every other day. I would never go without one, ever. Sorry, no convincing me on that one, not even open for discussion. :D

Good news is our last one lasted many, many years, and was not even a fancy/nice one, just some cheapy Kenmore. So guess what we got to replace it? A cheapy Kenmore! :D Only $300, and free install/delivery by Eric & the Taco and me!! :D It was time to let it go, no fixing this time. I've repaired and deep cleaned it before, and that was great and all, but this time it was just the final goodbye. Sounded like the pump in the motor was going, and just like a car, at some point it's better to replace than repair.

We saw two nice looking cars while we were out. A newer looking Toyota Matrix AWD, and a Kia Spectra hatchback. Both cute little hatchbacks. Time to research 'em!

I wish you would have shot that coon @cosmicfires !!! They suck. I've read about that trap & giant thing of water idea. Not sure if I'd have the stomach for it or not. I suppose Eric would. But not sure if I could handle even just knowing it was going on outside. Blech. Bet that thing would be FLIPPING OUT inside that trap, and especially if you tried to pick the trap up.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: I know I couldn't do it.

Yeah don't drown any coons, if ya want em dead shoot em. If youre worried about noise the air guns they make these days are just as powerful as a .22 and make very little noise. Perfect for urban hunting!! Never really understood the "let's let er suffer as much as possible instead of an instant death" and this is coming from a guy who has worked in the woods basically since high school, hunted, trapped and been obsessed with the outdoors since I was old enough to do/understand it.

Our dishwasher died this summer after a lightning strike, so we got a ultra efficient and quiet BOSCH with a double filter for particulates, and Lowes install it with a rebate from Bosch to cover the install cost plus no sales tax on the unit due to the install. Our electric bill went down the the new dishwasher. We have the WRX version of the Imprezza, a 2013 model and the wife love it, more fun to drive that the Taco and with blizzaks, faster on the ice.

Yep, I've heard the Bosch dishwashers are top of the line quality. My aunt got one a couple years ago and loves it. But they also come with a much higher price tag than our cheapy Kenmore. Not in the budget right now, eye on the prize of the Civ's replacement for us right now. And keeping a little spending money for pub adventures and such :D

Just tried the happy hour at a local Irish pub that had Basil Hayden bourbon and some yummy little finger foods for eats - banger sliders, some seriously cheesy mac & chs, giant soft pretzel with mustard..........mmmmmmm. Anyone ever tried Basil H? Mmmmm good. :proposetoast: First time I tried it....me likey!

@hetkind , is your wife's a sedan or hatchback? Still learning the different trim styles on those, so I'm not sure what comes in what exactly! More and more as we are out and about, we are really liking the look of that car. They are cute! And practical with the MPG and AWD. And they come in an awfully purty shade of blue that I see around a whole lot. Would look quite adorable parked next to the Taco I think. :D Hoping we can find one that will fit our budget and be all that we hope and dream :)

Eric's getting the new DW hooked up, then later we're watching Exodus with Christian Bale. Hoping it's good, looks like it has potential - what did you guys think of it?

As usual, the neighbors are letting their dogs run in the streets. And the coons are gearing up for a long night of partying in everyone's back yards, making sure to wake every dog to achieve a full volume barking fiasco, I can feel it. Just another special day in my neighborhood :D Might be time for another cocktail :D

OH YEAH!! I actually have a Taco related question for you guys!! Incredible, here on TW, huh? ;) Our power lock on the passenger side is sort of half assed working these days. Anyone had this problem before? Any easy/cheapy fixes or not worth bothering?

Just watched. We have no food anywhere out there, and keep our yard super tidy and clean. Even cut down our apple tree, grape vines, and willow tree to take away any food or shelter for them.

And knock on wood, they have not yet come into any part of our house, and it better damn well stay that way or I will seriously freak out. Which is why I take the battle with them just walking through our yard so seriously, I want it to be very clear to them that they aren't welcome, so they don't get comfy and start going for our house someday. No doggie door for us, now or ever.

They've never gone for our garbage. They fill up on fresh fruit throughout the neighborhood instead!! Fruit trees everywhere. Ha, to think at one time I actually thought fruit trees were really cool. All they seem to do is attract critters.

They just use our yard as a travel path, but I don't even want them doing that. I could try the ammonia trick near the area we think they enter the yard from, and/or spray the fence in that area with tabasco sauce spray maybe? I know they don't like tabasco. When Eric found them inside our old hollow willow tree and we knew we had to get that thing cut down ASAP, we wanted to evict the little fuckers first. So we filled a giant play water spray gun with bottles of tabasco from Costco and filled the cavity of that tree. They took off pretty fast. :D

    THAT'S IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    COON PROBLEM SOLVED! Maybe?

After writing that last post, it occurred to me, if I know Tabasco works, why not use it now somehow?

As in, why not keep that same water gun filled with it, then if Dolly alerts us to them invading our yard again, run out and pray for great aim!!!!!! Not hurting them, yet they would not like getting that stuff on them anywhere. Might be enough to encourage them to look for a different path......

Wow, this paints a pretty bizarro pic huh?

mix some tabasco and ammonia and spray the fence line, not just the path or they will make a new path.

if you go out and spay like every other day for a week or so they will find a new path to travel through someone elses yard and your good

your making a scent barrier they wont want to cross so they go somewhere else

Our WRX is a hatchback with a good sized subwoofer in the rear. It has been sitting idle most of the summer, we took it on a trip to Connecticut in June and last week to an Unknown Hinson show at the Holston River Brewing Company. Jill is driving the automatic Accord until her foot gets better.

We took delivery of the vehicle in October of 2012 and have about 42k miles with no corrective maintenance, just oil changes and filters.

Is this in response to my comment that raccoons serve no purpose?

Fine, I suppose this one is mildly entertaining ;)

They are still nasty though! :puke:

I'm late to the convo as usual.

My father in law has a Prius. 7 years old and no trouble. Battery and computers are still good. He gets 50ish miles to the gallon. He is not a dick lol. The rest of the family on her side is though considering the cheapest car they own is an A8 among them and they constantly make fun of us for owning Ford/Toyota/Chrysler/Normal cars and trucks whenever we buy a new one . Some of us can't afford to own or lease a new BMW 7 series every year.

The battery thing is overblown. NiMH batteries are super easy to recycle. Most of the websites that talk about dumping the electrolyte in the ocean are talking about AA and small NiMH issues. Basically no one recycles those tiny rechargeable batteries and they become an issue. When you need a new Prius battery, go turn yours into a recycler. There's one in almost every city. They take them and replace the cells with new electrolyte, take the nickle and electrodes recycle and replace them, and then sell it as a re-manufactured replacement battery. You can buy a re-manufactured battery off them for half of what Toyota is asking for the same thing anyways. Funny thing is I don't see anyone not using lead acid batteries because of all the lead it releases into the environment when those batteries are disposed of improperly. Oh, and some of the new electric cars are going to Li-ion batteries. Trust me, those are far more toxic but the metal is also far more valuable so they too have good recyclers. To be perfectly honest, the ecosystem is at FAR more risk from every person in the world owning an iPhone with a Lithium based battery than it is from the Prius batteries.

All batteries are pretty safe as long as they end up going to a recycler. If they end up being shipped to China or in a landfill then it hurts the environment.

Whatever you do avoid used Prius cars though. Usually they come from corporate leasing and there is no telling how abused that thing was. It is expensive to fix the powertrain off warranty, so they are pretty risky as they get older.

That all being said, only buy a Prius if your commute is mostly in town with lots of stop and go driving. That's where that thing makes you money. If you are just going onto the freeways though for most of the trip a small engine gas car can easily match the Prius mileage and costs less off the bat.

Here we just shoot Raccoons. Remember this is Canada too so we don't shoot a whole lot. Honestly a couple of months ago one was a problem and a town cop just shot it with his service pistol . Probably not an option for you but reminded me of that happening because it was a big deal here. Funny too because I heard more ruckus over that than when a FAW officer was laid off because he refused to kill a bear that hadn't hurt anyone.
