Yep, that's bigger than any I've seen!! Once I had a roommate that had a tarantula. BLECH!!!!! He'd always say how harmless they were. Really though? Even if that's true, they are just plain creepy IMO!

I know, they are seriously creepy. Both. Snakes are much worse, but spiders are no picnic. Accidentally stuck my forehead into yet another GIANT web, no doubt with a giant granddaddy spider of some sort in it, just a couple days ago while pulling weeds. Ugh. Disgusting to stand up and realize what just happened. Then I'm frantically trying to brush imaginary armies of spiders out of my hair for the next 5 hours

EDIT: You know, the imaginary armies of spiders that would look roughly like the lovely pic that cosmic spiders posted??!?!

The Brown Recluse spider is one to avoid for sure, more dangerous than a Black Widow by far..

Number 1 problem with emergency room visits because of a spider bite? People thinking they were bit by the worst spider in there area. If you think you were bit by something bad, don't squish it. Bottle the SOB and bring him with you. It makes the medical staffs job 10x easier.

They are almost everywhere in some amount because the often come in on produce. However, the odds of you finding one and getting bit by it in a cold weather state are about as good as a 747 crashing into your house tomorrow.

Venom toxicity - the brown recluse venom can cause significant cutaneous injury with tissue loss and necrosis.

Habitat - brown recluse is found in the United States from the east to the west coast, with predominance in the south.

Spider Identification - an adult spider is 1/4 to 3/4 inch in body - a dark violin shape is located on the top of the leg attachment region with the neck of the violin pointing backward toward the abdomen. Unlike most spiders that have 8 eyes, the brown recluse has 6 eyes arranged in pairs - one pair in front and a pair on either side.

The Termite.com link has a chart to aid in identifying spiders and other critters. It might come in handy.

    Source(s): http://www.termite.com/spider-identifica...
    http://www.answers.com/topic/recluse-spi...

The odds of the Brown Recluse in Oregon is very low, but with the changing climate I am sure they will spread...

I linked that a few dozen pages back lol.

its cool and works but use play sand instead of salt because gets into things where it gets damp and can make things rust if it settles on anything metal.

it works on bees, flies, and even something as small as a mosquito. doesn't always kill them but it does disable the wings

This thread is so long I have missed many a page, not surprised I missed it....the sand suggestion makes sense, probably super fine sand I would imagine...

Heading outside to take advantage of this possibly last little stretch of dry, sunny weather. Gotta finish up staining some of the gate/fence panel boards. Then we'll put hardware on the front of the gates this weekend!! Hurray!!

@koditten , are you doing the door from your bedroom to your deck? How's it going?
