Split pea soup. Yummy. Not sure about the bacon, though. I like bacon, but it just seems wrong to not use ham.

Pizza sounds great, but like you said, pre cooking the crust is the only way to go.

All this talking about food is killing me. I haven't been able to eat like I normally do for a month. I got aa busted molar that is giving me fits. On the plus side, that fucker and I parting company tomorrow at 10:30. Out it comes.

Once that tooth is gone, I'm going to do some serious grilling!

I made Bacon wrapped Brussel Sprouts on a bed of mushrooms and onions yesterday with a 10 oz custom cut (I cut my own steaks) ribeye steak on the side. I was in heaven. My wife is going through some post pregnancy meat aversion though so I had to make her some wild salmon instead of a steak and she disliked the sprouts (I've never served them before, and I made the mistake of telling her what they were before she bit into one :().

Soup was awesome TW!! Never woulda thought I'd like split pea soup, but it was hearty & mmm good :hungry: Put a little bit of shredded potatoes in there, plus some chunks of taters, and of course a generous sprinkle of chopped up bacon and all the standard ingredients. Holy cow, yum!

Favorite thing about winter used to be snowboarding. These days, it's cooking. And eating. :hungry: And drinking. :proposetoast: :D

Going to attempt turkey pot pies with Tday leftovers for my next culinary adventure. I figure I know I can make a great pie crust, so why not use one of those delicious flaky buttery crusts to enclose some sort of hearty meal goodness instead of always doing sweets! I have some little mini pie tins so they can even be cute little individual serving sizes! :hungry: Going to start prepping pie crust dough today. :)

I should mention, this does not mean no more sweet pies. Oh no. That will never happen. :D Tday pies this year are Knock Your Socks Off Pumpkin Pie (a way yummier twist on the old classic) and Apple Pie with crumb topping and homemade salted caramel sauce. Oh geeze, is it Thursday yet? :hungry:

Anyone ever deep fry their turkey? Not planning to but curious if anyone's tried it and how it was?

OK, favorite Tday food item? Ready, set, go! :quickdraw:

I think its better to fry sectioned turkey rather then trying to fry a whole turkey so you don't have a lot of leftovers and it cooks faster. just like with fried chicken, the leftovers are never as good as fresh cooked. its the peanut oil that makes it taste so good, most people make the mistake of trying to use cheaper regular veggie oil but it tastes completely different that way.

go get a boneless turkey breast or a couple of turkey wings and deep fry them in peanut oil and OMG its good lol.

If you like excessively greasy bird meat, you will like the deep fried turkey. The easiest way is to buy a big propane fryer and do it outside. If you cut it up and do it inside your house will smell like greasy turkey for weeks.

uits no more excessively greasy then fried chicken. not allowing it time to rest and excess grease to drip off might have been why yours was so greasy

Absolutely on the grease part. That's why I said greasy bird lol. If you like deep fried chicken you'll like deep fried turkey. I find any unbreaded bird meat to be excessively greasy after being fried. Results may very depending on the cook and the mouth eating the turkey of course.

Mine was fine, though I prefer properly prepared baked turkey with stuffing and gravy :).

We aren't deep frying one anyway. Just wondered if any of you had ever tried it.

@keakar , I like the idea of doing a small amount to see what it's like sometime! Peanut oil, huh?

Yep, I'm also quite excited about the traditional turkey with all the fixings. Stuffing is the best food ever invented in my opinion. This is about the time of year that the scale starts tipping the wrong direction..........so worth it though :D

C'mon, everybody has to say their fave Tday food!!

Tooth is out. My dentist, she is awesome. Zero pain, 90 seconds to get tooth out. Half the face is numb. Gonna stick to norco pills today to keep any pain at bay. I kinda like these norcos. I can see how people get hooked on prescription meds.

Keep the recipes coming. I'm loving it. So many wonderful foods.

I gotta think its my step sisters mashed potatoes. Next is mothers stuffing, next is the wife's apple pie.

I don't know who invented that peas and peanuts dish, but that is the dish I like the least. Sperate, I like them just fine. Together is just wrong.

This sounds awesome! I pulled our Brussels sprout plants up last week. I think I found my first dish with those sprouts.

Oh, and use Canola or Sunflower oil as always. They are the healthiest oils in general with the best taste characteristics.

If you know a friend who works at a french fry plant try to get them to steal you some Nexera specialty oil... trust me... awesome oil to fry in.

    So excited guys!!!

Most of the next 10 days here are going to be awesome weather!! Freezing cold and and super sunny, my favorite!! :):):):):):):):):):)

Feast of yummy foods and sunny cold weather and lots of Jubelale = :D

Oh yeah, and drywall mud & tape, parts II and III. Woo hoo! Eric was watching a library video on drywalling, and the guy in the video starts out basically saying, this is gonna be boring as hell and you'll be hard pressed to find anything less exciting than drywalling, or talking about drywalling. So, STAY TUNED! Will be very glad when this exciting  phase of the work is over.

@koditten , what is this strange dish you speak of? Never heard of it. Sounds terrible!! :puke:

I remember one year I visited with an aunt, uncle and cousin for a post Tday celebration, and that particular aunt was a truly terrible cook. Not sure what we were eating exactly, but I do remember barfing WHILE SITTING AT THE TABLE, BASICALLY ONTO MY PLATE. How's that for awkward? I was like 7 years old, so I don't think I even understood that it was awkward at the time.

I forgot about the whipped cream, fruit cocktail and strawberry jello mixed stuff. Its actually pretty tasty, but I can't eat it because it looks exactly like catfish bait. Yuck!

Look it up. I have no idea why that peas and peanut s dish is always on the table for thanksgiving. Must be a Michigan thing.

yep, the peanut oil gives it that wonderful nutty flavor that makes it so good. other oils might be good and healthy but without that nutty taste its just like any other regular fried food IMHO.

there are dry fryers if you don't want the deep fry method but to be honest if you aren't deep frying it in peanut oil then you may as well bake it in the oven rather they buy a special fryer just to convention oven cook it, which is all I think it is.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=th7S87-3A70

try buying some turkey breast fillets or chicken breast fillets and fry them in peanut oil and you will get the same results as a deep fried turkey without all the mess
