Thanks guys. Yep it's very frustrating....

And you're right Kigmob, it's not like we'd return it, and at least we won't have to question it's function. Yet assuming our new guy confirms 100% that it's the pump, it would then seem pretty darn likely that the pressure test done by the previous mechanic was somehow done incorrectly, right? I don't know. I know a bunch of you are going to rip on me now for ripping on the mechanic, but there's a line there of what's fair, and I feel we were left on the side of the road with our diagnostic issues once we paid $6k for the engine. And that's not right, even if they were honest mistakes, like we all make. There should have at least been more concern/assistance in guiding us on the right path to get it resolved, and there wasn't.

He checked for codes, with a tool that I'm sure gives more info than SG - no codes.

He is repeating the fuel test one more time still to be 100% certain (I LOVE THIS GUY!) but he is absolutely certain it's a fuel issue. Said he tested for spark, it was good. Tested for compression, it was good. Thinks wiring harness & ECU are fine, being as how they seem to be reporting the appropriate info/making the appropriate adjustments - said we're not running too lean or too rich.

    More coming..

With the stripped thing, he said your supposed to use a line wrench to remove the bolt at the fuel rail to connect the gauge, but SOMEONE used something else and stripped it, so he had to break it free w/vice grips. He realized somewhere into that that he was opening a new can of worms and stopped and tightened it back up. He assured me he looked at it closely and it's not leaking there.

Pretty confident you and hubby could diy the fuel pump easily lifting the bed, it takes more time imo this way but it saves you from dropping the tank and if theres a couple people doing the job together it should go really smooth.
Takes no special tools and is very straight fwd.
Truck is drivable now- order the pump from rock and save $ doing the install yourself.

He tapped in by the filter. He said his in line gauge has a "shut off" on it, so he closed the valve while starting it at the 1/2 hour mark and it started right up, so this is why he thinks it's the pump....

I asked if there's any chance we also have leaky injectors, he said when he closed his gauge it would have been a slow drop in pressure if they were leaky, plus we'd see black smoke when starting, so he's pretty certain no leaky injectors....

I asked about concern over fuel going places where it shouldn't, like the new bearing oil, he said he will double check all that, but he doesn't think that's an issue......he said w/new engines, alot of times you'll have a funny oil smell from the special oil....told him husband thought it was an oil odor, not a fuel odor, and he agreed, he thought it smelled like oil too.....

Glad every things working out! It seems obvious that the other mechanic did not check the fuel pressure every which way (like he said).... unless he was not doing it correctly.

He said he's going to repeat the test again and if it starts right up when he has the gauge closed, he'll know it's the pump....
