Exactly my thoughts Keakar, good point. Forgot to mention that in my previous post, but yes, that is definitely one of the reasons why I never did this. Thanks man! :)

Exactly my thoughts. Thank you for pointing this out File IFR.

We certainly have other issues that will eventually need to be attended to with the truck (most of you know what I'm talking about!), but clearly these are not issues that have ANYTHING to do with what the engine mechanics worked on.

The stuff that we are finding wrong, and continuing to troubleshoot, are things that may or may not be related to the work they performed. And we keep adding to this thread to try to figure out what the issue is, and whether it's related or not.

Ha! So funny that you mentioned this Keakar, I actually imagined that yesterday, knowing a lot of you guys live down that way. We would seriously need to send a camera crew for that - Season 5, episode 12 - Jen's Taco Issues Visit Florida!

It's not that bad Bama! Really, it's consistently between 40 and 60, and once a year the sun even comes out, right Mod? :D

Wait, Bama, you live in Florida or Georgia, right? Yeah, I guess 40-60 is kinda freeze your balls off from your perspective. Hmm. Ah hell, do it anyway, come on out! Maybe we can set up a nice, high quality Harbor Freight heater - if we're lucky it might even work for a few minutes! :D

Must be nice! Ahh, glorious sunshine, the complete opposite of the PNW! You guys get a good amount of rain down there too though, right?

Geeze, I wonder what part of Florida my mechanic is in....that would be such a crazy coincidence if it was near you! I would seriously love it if the two of you could talk, no joke! If he calls me, I'm gonna find out whereabouts he's at........

    I'm kinda a talker......:D

Although, I do definitely wish this thread would have concluded with a nice happy ending of a perfectly working truck ~1 month ago as we expected. Then I'd have more time to talk about other stuff! :D

Did anybody think this thread would see 1300 posts? Crazy, hopefully it stops somewhere around 1500 with a happy ending.

1500, and 30,000 page views. Then if you really want out of the truck, you can sell it on eBay since it'll be internet famous. Or a viking funeral.. :bananadead:

just come visit us around august where the heat index is 110 degrees in the shade and 100% humidity so your sweat never dries and your underwear and socks are soaking wet at the end of a workday even though you never got near water.

and don't ask how as a grownup you can get diaper rash at work lol

if your freezing you can always put more clothes on but when its too hot to move or even breathe you just have to sit there and suffer praying for nighttime where its only in the low 90's

I don't think so, I think its a great learning experience for anyone thinking of what to do about a bad engine, side tracks and all but hey at this many posts there needs to be a little levity from time to time to keep it interesting

does turning tires to black wall out count? How bout added snug top rebel.
What issue was not present? The hard warm start? I think you were obviously having some type of fuel issue, you leaned out enough to put a hole in your piston. It seems to me that they were willing to try everything you asked of them, including installing the AFR. Everything they did to find out why was reasonable.
If you feel they put in bad injectors, go talk to them about it, don't stop payment on your card or threaten a lawsuit, that is just unreasonable.

My family owns a small farm/ranch. We have over 50 machines, tractors, trucks, equipment that I'm responsible for keeping running. My best friend is a shade tree mechanic in our home town. I can't tell you how many times he's fixed an issue, to have another issue show up. It's just part of the deal. You had a shop do basically the biggest job you can have done to a vehicle, and now there is a small issue that has reared it's ugly head. I"ve been working on my own things for over 30 years, I've had hundreds of issues that weren't easy to diagnose. I've thrown parts at problems hoping that they would fix it, only to have the exact same problem show up. There are things that I couldn't fix with my experience, some things I've had to take to shops, or ask on forums if any one else has had the same issue, so I definitely understand your frustration.
My only issue is that you are now thinking you should stop payment or sue this shop for an issue that they had no way of creating.

Ok, what exactly did they do to not tune/set up? There is no "tuning" on these motors. The computer does all the "tuning". What part or piece of the internal parts of the motor would cause hard warm starts?

You win. You're right, I'm totally in the wrong here. Got it. This is not in any way a reflection of the work they did, even though an ASE certified mechanic is the one telling me exactly that. Got it.

EDIT: "telling me that much of what he's found is exactly that. The rest is still up in the air, see previous and below posts." Thank you.

Dude, seriously, what is your vested interest here? No one is suing anyone or denying any charges YET - if you'd read my response to your original post, you'd see that I may not seek even a dime back from them, that will be decided AFTER the issue that developed AFTER the work they did is resolved. And yes, the issue is the hard warm starts. And that issue was not present before they worked on the truck, I am absolutely CERTAIN of that. At this point, no one, not them, not me, not the mechanic working on it, not anyone on this forum TRULY knows how much, if any of the work they did on the truck caused/contributed to this issue, until the issue has been completely diagnosed and repaired. Any reasonable person would have to consider the possibility that it could have developed from work that they did - think about it, you yourself just said they did basically the biggest job that could possibly be done on a vehicle in terms of repairing/replacing something. I'm no mechanic, but I know enough by now to realize there's a whole lotta stuff that could go wrong/be damaged in that process! Just chill, no one is being sued or having charges denied until we know what the whole picture is, then decide what's fair and reasonable. What, are those guys your family or something? Why do you care sooooooooooooo much?

I gotta say, while I am glad that we live in a free country and all get to share our opinions, this is a real downer to come home to.

Almost had a pleasant afternoon for the first time in a very long time. Just got back from doing some driving in my beloved truck, cranked up the tunes, enjoyed my lovely running new engine (hi, hello, Nickel, notice how I keep pointing out how great the engine seems to be?), then came home and read this.

Thank you for ruining my almost pleasant afternoon. Have a great evening buddy.

    Whaaa?

Put yourself in their shoes. How would you handle it?... just let it go and take your lumps? I doubt it.

Seriously, what would you do if it was your truck and you;re not a mechanic? I'm dying to hear your answer. Your move Nickel.
