This is just my opinion, and I only have 20 years running these trucks after I put them together.

Toyota tells you, you must use Toyota Long Life anti freeze. I say bullshit. I've been using any quality after market antifreeze is just fine.

I actually have a friend who is a Toyota dealer mechanic. He has a theory that the reason Toyota water pumps fail, is because of the antifreeze Toyota uses.

My tundra has green antifreeze and is showing no leaks at water pump area. That got green antifreeze early in its life.

Others may disagree, but I won't use the expensive, Toyota antifreeze.

OK, looks like false alarm on the plugs - he just pulled another one and it looks new/good....but that 1st one he pulled from #3 was totally carbon tracked, JUST LIKE 2007, JUST LIKE HOLE IN PISTON EVENT - which supports the theory we've had all along - IT'S THE COIL PACK!!!! HOLY CRAP WE MAY HAVE OUR TRUCK FIXED FINALLY IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS YOU GUYS!!! MIGHT ONLY NEED ONE PLUG!!!

Your on the track to having a relationship with the deal. I have been able to dealer parts for years at cost. The more they see your smiling face, the more they are likely to give you a deal. All you have to do is ask, but you do need to do this in person. Parts counter guys like cookies too. Hint, hint.

you guys stay tuned, i really really think this is it!!! it all adds up! I know there have been a bazillion false alarms, but i really think this is it!! getting the champagne chilled, gonna walk back over and give husband the plugs, then ready to hit send on rock auto for 2 more denso coil packs if it starts correctly after this!

#5 was carbon tracked too! not as bad as #3, but it really really looks like it's the coil packs! we only have the one we bought right now, that aftermarket one, so we'll put that at #3 then grease the #5 real good/careful again, but i'd think we'd see a significant improvement in all symptoms if this is it, even if #5's coil pack is barely hanging in there, especially if greased well....then new ones to arrive from rock auto very soon

Hey man! I just realized Mod took #1500!!! that was sposed to be mine!!! You're in big trouble man!!!! :D

here's some shots of the plugs for your viewing pleasure.....who can guess which pic is of a plug from the old engine? :D

current plugs we just pulled are laid out from L to R in order of 1-6, one photo is one side of them, other photo is other side of them

other photo is close up of #3 current plug

it's weird, none look familiar to us so definitely they were all replaced by engine mechanic, but one is denso and other 5 are NKG???????? WTF? wondering if they put used plugs in or something, for the ones that look bad? #2 (the only denso) is the only one that looks pristine to me.....what do you guys think?

Also just realized i should change thread title back to "spun rod bearing vs. spark plug electrode bouncing around" if this winds up being it....

Its gonna work...the good, you have gone through everything....I cleaned, replaced and trouble shot tons of shit when I was flustering through mine...

I actually had a set of wires already purchased I had been holding off putting in because I figured I would do it and change the sparkies too, prolly had the wires for a good six months....go figure, the engine started running so bad I figured WTF, and bam, like a new engine....

    It's gonna work...

Oddly enough, its pretty common to find 2 different brands of plugs in the 3.4. I don't remember why its done, but is noted from time to time. Do quick search on the TW site and you will find many reporting this.

When toyota sold denso way back when they signed a contract with ngk to supply their plugs. Then when Toyota bought denso back they started using both suppliers to avoid paying a contract cancellation fee. To this day 1GF-RE engines have ngk plugs on one bank of the engine and denso plugs on the other.

So...can we sermise that the engine builder used original plugs if Jen has 2 different brands? I know if I was replacing plugs, I won't be buying 2 different brands.

    I'm just wondering out loud.
