It starts correctly now, thanks to the best dealer tech ever.
Don't want to jinx it, but it started pretty darn normally with the AFR gauge disconnected. Reset the timer for 30 min (~20-25 left now) to see if it's a fluke or what.

Also, husband did the jumper wire thing with the timing belt again. He did it this weekend already, but this time he said he left it on there longer, and repeated it twice. And he's thinking (from talking to the dealer tech) that he may have been resetting the timing by doing that? Not sure, you guys might know. Anyway, he said this time the timing was PERFECT. The little tick marks/numbers range from 8 to 12, and he said both times it landed right at 10.

So if what he did actually changed something, rather than just checking something, it's possible that decent 30 min start was from that, or from the AFR gauge being disconnected. Or it's possible it was a fluke. Not getting even remotely excited yet, we've been down this road enough times by now. We'll see how it starts in ~20 min, then MAYBE we'll get a little bit excited. Or go back to reading about TB & IAC valve cleaning/gasket replacement.

OK. 2nd decentish start at 30 min mark. Set the timer for 45 min this time, and there's 24 min left til next start right now. It's weird, these last two starts weren't normal and weren't awful either. They were in between. More than the typical normal 2 crank/revolution stuff, but not the 5-10 seconds of crank time either. More like 2-4 seconds. And the only variable that's different is disconnecting that AFR gauge. And whatever husband did with timing - still not sure if he actually changed something, or just checked something by doing that jumper wire thing. And I suppose, with the new TPS sensor we installed last night, then with all the driving I did today, and much of it being semi high speed (~40-60mph average on country roads for ~2 hours), maybe it's possible that sensor is starting to change something? Don't know. Had really hoped and felt determined to pinpoint whatever the fix was by doing ONE thing at a time, in hopes of others being helped by the thread, but of course my #1 goal is for the issue to be resolved! Trying REALLY hard to not allow myself to get excited right now.........we'll see in ~20 min how we do.

3rd nearly normal start. Not getting excited. Not getting excited. Not getting excited. Set timer for 1 hour this time, ~45 min left. Gonna scarf some dinner then head back out. Not getting excited. Not getting excited. Not gonna go there..........yet..........not gonna hope that all the main supporters log on ASAP, cuz probably nothing to get excited about........not getting excited............

Here's one of my other top 5 Waylon faves in the meantime........it's kinda Valentine's-ish.........or maybe I've had too many Buffalo & gingerales? Nah, it's sweet, definitely.

Holy shit. I think its fixed. Husband is plugging AFR gauge back in and we're restarting in 30 min to see if that makes the excessive crank come back. If it does, we know what it was. If it doesn't, it's gotta either be that he reset something with the timing when he did the jumper thing, or the new TPS followed by the driving I did today allowing the ECM to figure out that it was replaced.

It's still not a completely normal start, it's just a tad bit excessive, but no where near the shit we've been having the past month. And I could see any of the 3 possible culprits simply being a matter of a bit more driving/time to fully correct, meaning if AFR was it, maybe the ECM needs some driving to realize it's gone now. Or if it was the timing, maybe needs some driving to recognize it was reset to perfect. Or if TPS, maybe the driving I did today got the ECM to mostly adjust to the new one, but didn't quite learn it 100% til more driving is done. We are going to do all that we can to figure out which of the 3, cuz after all this shit, we deserve to satisfy that curiosity that has kept us awake at night for soooooooooooo damn long. And you all deserve to know too.

Still scared to fully celebrate after all we've been through but DAMN close to running down the street screaming and breaking open bottles of champagne in the bed of the Taco to start an all night PARTY. God, I am so f'ing scared to get excited. But that was 2 good 30 min starts, 1 good 45 min start, and 1 good 1 hour start. In a row. Hard to call ALL of that a fluke. Holy shit.

Post #989, January 26. If ONLY I'd followed my instincts way back then, good grief. Could have saved ourselves nearly 3 weeks of pure hell and I don't even want to know how many $$$$$. Wow. This is blowing my mind.

Thanks Mod!! Soooooooooooooo happy right now! Best possible outcome too - there wasn't a damn thing wrong with our Taco, she was just like, get this weird f'ing thing off me, I don't like it!!! Honestly, it's gotta be that they installed it wrong, cuz plenty of people have those and I doubt they're all having hot start issues.

Hurray!! Taco lives on, woo hoo!! And lovemytacolots gets to have a nice long peaceful slumber for the first time in a long time!! Definitely gonna be a mimosa morn, was too late to crack the bubbly tonight! :D

I've got some followup questions...did you get the AFR box and manual when the first set of bozo's installed it? If not, it might have been a used one they had pulled off something else and had lying around. And if they installed it, on their suggestion, they ARE responsible.

Glad to see it got fixed, amazed to find out the data acquisition tool was CAUSING the problem.
