I have 5 Methods with sensors in all wheels. Spare is on a swing out. All is great until I load up to go on an adventure. Once I leave and am just down the road a few miles the check tpms system warning and light comes on. Drove for weeks and weeks with no problem. Load up to head to Moab and stupid light and warning comes on the whole trip. Get back, unload, wash it, clean it out etc and light and warning go away and all is well again. Works fine for a few weeks. Until I just loaded up for a camping trip and took off. TPMS comes back on a couple miles down the road. WTF? Seems weight related but how/why could that be? Maybe the stuff in the bed is blocking the signal?? Where is such a thing?? Anyone have any ideas? I am pretty sure it's going to go out in a day or two since I am just driving back and forth to work now. Next trip and it will come on for sure. HELP!

    SOLVED.
Big thanks for those who tried to help me!
    Someone guessed pretty darn close.

When I had to pull the headliner out so I could install (drill 12 freaking holes in my roof) my roof rack I saw the receiver box for the keyless entry AND the TPMS. Someone at some point mentioned it might be under there... Well it was. It is in the back left, about 10 inches in from the side, very near the back wall. This happens to be VERY near where I place my magnetic mount HAM radio antenna. Until now, I only set up my radio when I went out on a big adventure. In hind sight, this seems kinda obvious, but it didnt even cross my mind. Once I saw the box there, the big ding sound went off. No issues since getting rid of the magnetic mount and going hard mount to the roof rack. Have had a full load out, and broadcasted on the radio and error stays at bay. Fingers crossed but this sure seems like the issue is solved.

Does it show it to be the spare? This is likely the answer. The receiver is, I think, under the headliner.

    I'd just ignore it.

Man I'm glad my truck didn't come with any TPMS. No lights, no problems.

Works fine with 4 wheels on the truck?
Gets screwed up with 5 wheels on the truck?

The 3rd Gen cannot read 5 sensors at one time, only 4.

Op, can you give a little more info? Is the display telling you that one or more tires are low? Is the display showing you the pressures of all of your tires?

    Also:
The system is disabled under the following conditions (when the condition returns to normal, the system will work properly).
    1. When all of the tire and wheel assemblies that have tire pressure warning valve and transmitters registered with the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver have not been installed.
    2. When all of the transmitter ID codes are not registered with the tire pressure warning ECU and receiver.
    3. When the tire pressure is abnormally high (absolute pressure: 480 kPa (4.9 kgf/cm2, 70 psi) or more; relative pressure: 380 kPa (3.9 kgf/cm2, 55 psi) or more).
    4. When the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter battery is depleted.
The system may become disabled under the following conditions (when the condition returns to normal, the system will work properly).
    1. When electric devices or facilities using similar radio frequencies are nearby.
    2. When a wireless device or other equipment operating at a similar frequency is in use in the vehicle.
    3. When a window tint that affects radio wave signals is installed.
    4. When there is a lot of snow or ice on the vehicle, in particular, around the wheels or wheel housing.
    5. When non-genuine wheels are used.
    6. When tire chains are used.
    7. When aftermarket tire repair sealant is used.
    • CAUTION: After use of tire repair sealant, replacement of the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is required to ensure normal system operation. (Normal system operation cannot be ensured by only repairing or replacing the tire.)

Would love to do this, but it is a huge display message that you have to acknowledge every time you start the truck. Then a blinking idiot light for a few min. Then a solid orange idiot light. Hate it.

Works with all five... I do understand it only can read 4, but it normally works fine with all five.

Have you tried switching the display to the tpms display with each tire’s pressure? What’s it say?

I am a bit insane when it comes to wanting all my tire pressures even. I always have a quality 0-60 dial gauge in my glove box and in my garage.

Tpms solid light only comes on after 30min of driving with no communication from the sensors.

I run non tpms winters, truck is fine around town and parked in front of the garage where the summer wheels are stored. 30min out of town the light comes on solid. Stays on until I get back to the tpms wheels.

Well.. if it can only read 4, it does NOT work with all 5...

Just a guess, but possibly the truck randomly 'picked' 4 sensors to read, one of which was your spare. When you load up the truck possibly theres just enough camping gear between the spare and the receiver where it looses connection with the spare.

Cant... SR model. I would love to do that. Someone mentioned in another thread when I was searching for info on this that the toyota app on your phone would show all pressures even though it a SR. I cant see where to read the pressure and I sure tried hard.

Check your PSI when 'normal' (no TPMS light) and check the next time you load up and the light comes on. My TPMS doesn't come on until I lower it to 24-25 PSI. I normally keep them at 35-40. I've loaded over 1k pounds in the bed, no TPMS issue.

Probably your aftermarket wheels causing the issue.

You are experiencing exactly what the 3rd Gen TPMS does when there are 5 sensors. It “crashes” seeing the 5th sensor.

The very much less than random nature of this makes me think what you are saying is incorrect. However, I sure do hope you are correct. I guess I will have to pull the sensor from the spare and see what happens. Thanks for what sounds like a confident answer on this issue.
