So, I have wanted to get a Tacoma forever and just never done it. About 5 years ago I bought a brand new 2010 Subaru Impreza (definitely not a truck) and have loved it. However, I've never been able to take my eye off of the almighty Tacoma. I've paid off my car and am thinking about selling it and migrating over to a Tacoma. That being said, I don't really want to go back to a payment right now.

I've found a 2006 V6 PreRunner SR5 for sale in the area that I really like. The downside is that it has 153k miles on it. It would put a couple grand in my pocket to sell my car and buy that truck, but being only relatively familiar with Tacomas, I'm not sure if this would be a good move or not. My car has just over 67k miles on it, so I'd be more than doubling the miles.

    Anyone have any advice here?

TL;DR Thinking of trading a 2010 Impreza with 67k miles for a 2006 Tacoma with 153k miles. Thoughts?

its really up to you, but youre trading a perfectly good Subaru for a truck that is almost 10 years old. tacomas run forever but I personally want to be the one adding all those miles, not buying it that way. the average mileage a year for most people is 12k per year so technically this truck should have more around 100k on it. but that's just an average.

keep searching if you have your heart set on one. I bought a 2008 this last spring in perfect condition with only 36k on it. Be patient, you don't want to jump at the first deal that comes your way. the "one" will come along lol

I appreciate the reply. I haven't been set on this particular truck, just curious as to whether people normally bought trucks at that mileage for the price or not. It seems to be all I ever see for sale, unless I want to get up over $20k, or jump back into the random 1st gen truck here and there that has less miles. Basically, I'd like to keep the price lower so that I can pay cash for it and not get myself a car payment again. I'll keep watching to see if I find something better.

If it were me, I'd keep the Subaru longer while saving up for a truck with less mileage. If you pulled the trade, you'd have no car payments, but higher cost of maintenance. Just my $0.02. Welcome to TW!

yea you gotta figure that in. its really a catch 22, you make think that's a great deal but your cost of maintenance will be higher so it kinda evens things out. I wish I didn't have a car payment lol. keep the subbie

Thanks for the input! I think I'll hang on to it a bit longer and keep saving to get myself one with less miles. Curse that fantastic resale value until I have one and need to sell it. Glad to be here and hopefully I can officially join the club someday soon.

67k miles and no payment - keep the car and save your money. Then sell your car and pay the difference in cash for a new Tacoma.
