Perhaps the post sounded a little judgemental, but I think you would have viewed the situation differently if you were there and actually interacted with her. I wasn’t the only one thinking the way I was. The firemen and my buddy were all thinking the same thing.

I fervently believe our society has gotten as dumb and entitlement minded as we are today simply because so many people are so unwilling to make judgement calls on stupidity and general bad behavior. Everybody gets a pass.

Back in the day, when you did something really stupid or loathsome people would shame you for it outright. Maybe we need a little more of that today to balance things out a bit...?

I’m a single full time father, who works full time and is going back to school. My brain would never be that scattered where I can’t take 2 seconds to realize I was out of gas. Let alone if my truck died on the side of the road would I just abandon it. Not saying getting your kid out of the car is a bad thing but once they are in a safe area I would try to move my vehicle so I’m not causing a hazard.

Anyway the way I see it this lady put her child and self in a bad situation Running around in a vehicle on empty and not realizing it needs gas. These are the same type of people who leave children in hot parked cars forgetting they are in the back seat, or whatever. I don’t understand how anyone’s life can be that chaotic, that they could do something that foolish.

See, that's how you know you're NOT an idiot. Idiots do idiotic things but fail to recognize the action as idiotic.

Now, if you've done the SAME idiotic thing 10 times in a row...

If I go that far, I just embrace the stupidity at that point. Put my tools down and go home where I can do little or no damage.

    ^ This

How in the holy fuck do you run out of gas especially in the middle of a town or city? How brain dead do you have to be? I could understand on a long deserted stretch of highway or something but cmon?

Idiot. “Every one” should be two separate words in that sentence.

    Sarcasm btw.

Did I mention that was sarcasm?

    Btw, that was sarcasm.

There is a thing called the zero mile club.... where people push it as far as they can go. Sometimes they win and sometimes they lose.

Those people are psychopaths...any normal human being starts sweating with anxiety once the needle dips below the last quarter tank mark.

I came close to running out trying to drive from L.A. to kingman Arizona on one tank.
Passed the last gas station and still had a little over a quarter of a tank. I think the sign said a little over 100 miles for next services. I coasted into the next station on fumes.

Pretty much what I did but didn't make it.
Had an awesome tailwind and was averaging 22mpg in my 392 Scat Pack. My highest up until then was 18mpg. So I was super stoked.

If it wasn't for the last hill I had to climb, I think I would of made it.
