Sorry I have another question. I have dakar leafs+addaleaf and 1.5” lift shackles. Most of the rear shock options I’ve seen only go to 1” of lift. Does anyone know how that works?

yes you'll need a longer shock to accommodate your rear lift, otherwise you'll destroy the shock in short order (should also get extended rear brake lines).

The Icon rear 2.0 shocks are suitable for up to 3" of rear lift, that's why I went with those. Finding stock mount shocks for up to 3" of lift isn't easy for these trucks, I know King will custom make them for you but $$$

The Icons are affordable, I think around $350 for a pair without reservoirs, $500 with.

Well there's a chance you only looked up 1 shock (King) because other shocks are good for 2-3" of lift in the rear.

    @eon_blue runs Icon

I ran Fox 2.0 as you saw by the pic, and currently run Bilstein 5100s.

I wouldn't go all out just yet with the rear unless you do a shock relocation.

Using the stock mounting points, you can get 8" of travel in the rear. Doing a relocate before you cut into the bed you can go with a 10" or 12" shock.

Cut into your bed and you can go much larger.

So wait, you have Dakars which are a 2.5" lift spring, plus another 1.5" lift shackle, AND an add-a-leaf?

yikes I missed that...hopefully he's got some weight back there otherwise that's what, at least 4" lift if not more

4" or more of lift will require a custom shock I believe, or maybe one of the companies that sells 6" drop bracket kits sells some longer rear shocks most likely.

Currently just have a rear bumper with swing out that I built myself. 305/70r16 spare. Just ordered an allpro pack rack that I will be carrying fuel, a jack, and a rooftop tent on. Probably should’ve specified all of that sorry.

If you really do have that leaf pack with an add-a-leaf, AND the shackle lift, that's at LEAST 4" of lift, if not closer to 5 without the extra weight. The add-a-leaf will take care of the extra weight from your RTT and all that, but the fact that you have 2.5" dakars + 1.5" shackles isn't a good thing.

There aren't any shocks on the market (aside form full custom length ones) that will fit that application.

Don’t have one currently. I will try and remember to take one tonight. The rear right now sits a little bit higher than the front. The top of the tire is at about the middle of the frame in the rear (looking from the side). Sorry I know that’s a silly way to explain it, but it’s the best I can until I can get you a pic.

    Yeah

My eye twitched when I read about the rear lift stacking and reminded me of my days when I first installed just the Dakars.....

Shit I’m sorry. I wrote that post wrong. I am planning an add a leaf once I have the RTT. Currently don’t have one. Just the dakar pack and the shackles.

As long as the weight keeps it at 3" you'll be okay with a shock that works for up to that height. I have the All Pro Expo leafs which give 4" unloaded, 2.5" - 3" loaded

Well see...the shackle just provided a lift but didn't add to the actual payload capacity that your springs will provide whereas an AAL will.

I'd say, remove the shackle lift and install the AAL instead.

That still puts you at 4" of lift (2.5" + 1.5"). Most aftermarket, non-custom shocks are really only good to 3" of lift at most.

I think what you're going to need to (eventually) do is some serious measuring.

Find an area that you can fully flex out your truck and measure the compressed and extended shock lengths (extended length is more importing here). Do that for each side if you can. Then take both rear shocks off and flex out the suspension again. The measurements *should* be essentially the same.

If you get more flex with the shocks off, that means your shocks are limiting your travel, and that can damage your shocks.

That can happen if you have too much lift and your shocks aren't long enough
