Go to your local race kart track and do a 1 hour endurance race, they may only be go karts and only hit 40 to 50 kmh but you will be tired afterwards. Physical and mental strain to stay consistent and fast.

Actually, I disagree with that. The vehicles these guys are racing today are very comparable in just about any moto sport. They train their bodies to get better within the vehicle and course.

This is like saying bicyclists are athletes because the bike is doing the work.

These guys come out of their cars drenched and exhausted because it's a crazy workout and they constantly train their body to be better. If what you're saying is true there wouldn't be dominant drivers, everyone would compete. They take a god given ability and make it more.

How is it any different than a driver training his body for the strains associated with driving the car ? It's not like he's just along for the ride .

definitely not true. Those guys, say f1 drivers, have practiced and practiced and fine tuned their muscle reactions and body control and coordination to compete in a motor sport. You could give me an F1 car and give a real F1 driver a barbie battery powered jeep and the f1 driver would still kick my ass. Know why? Because provided I could even make 5 laps with the car without breaking it I would probably kill my self. As said before endurance is a huge part of it. Many races take place over long periods of time (baja 1000, where one driver team does the whole thing) and that takes massive amounts of endurance and physical ability to stay ontop of your game for that long of a time.

Now E-Sports...thats a whole different argument all together! Those are in so way at all real sports.

in a weight conscious sport, they are not going to stick a person who is over weight in the car . In other sports having a few pounds helps.

Motor cycles get an edge because they throw around their body weight and have to keep maneuvering it. Plus they are not weenies when it comes to the rain such as nascar.

I have raced a few karts, you need to be physically fit(which in america isnt saying much) but you don't have to be athletic. Truck drivers get pretty mentally strained, god only knows how unathletic some of them are

So the bike does the work? when have you seen a bicycle take off on its own?

It you open the throttle and let a car go it will take off

If you spin the wheel on a bike, even if it stayed upright, it would stop.

I bet no one on this forum could even drive a f1 car fast enough to keep the tires and brakes warm enough to work, let alone be fast enough to create any sort of down force.

    .
BS, give me a couple days with one and i'll learn to get it around the track, it's like racing a normal car, just half the weight, twice the power and four times the grip.

nascar will give a workout, you can tell me it won't after you go out and run a full race.
the concentration, and endurance needed to do 200+ laps at 180+ mph in a hot car ( i think the documentary i watched said the cars are usually 90-110 degrees), should qualify a nascar driver as a athlete.

oh, and le mans drivers, drive for 24 hours strait and tell me it doesn't take something special to do that.

Normal race cars are lucky to pull 1.7 g in a corner maybe 2, f1 pulls 3G acceleration, 5 to 6 g braking and 5 g cornering. After one day of trying to drive it your neck would be so sore you wouldn't be able to move it.

Thats just it. Once a driver is capable of driving a car, that is where the performance goes from a human limitation into a technology limitation.
