I am in the exact boat, had a 13 JK that I loved. I recently gave it to my son when he left for college. After reading a ton of reviews good and bad I've decided when I get back stateside that I'll be getting a Taco. Love the look of them and hopefully the 3rd gens will earn the dependable Toyota reputation.

You are a GM at a Toyota dealership and you are coming on a forum to ask about a Toyota? Really?

Sorry...shoulda clarified. GSM. And I have the jeep and another dd...so I took the car allowance, not the demo. And the dealership is in southern Kentucky...

So your running the variable side of the dealership. I have a ton of Toyota Dealer friends in that area. Which store are you in? Pretty rare to have someone take the allowance :). Most love the demo gig.

Swap out the words "Toyota" and "Tacoma" with "Jeep" and "Wrangler" and previous replies would be the same responses he would get if this were on a Jeep forum.

My last three vehicles were Jeeps (two TJs and my current WJ). I still love my Grand Cherokee. As mentioned from the member needing something "more practical" to do "boring adult shit", that's my reasoning here too. Some pros and cons (for me anyways) with Tacoma vs Wrangler.

    Pros:
Both are great off road capable vehicles.
Both have four door versions (I have two boys)
    Jeep has removable top.
Tacoma has a bed for hauling
The JKU has been around for a few years, so one could take advantage of vehicle depreciation
Both are newer vehicles (compared to my 2004 Grand Cherokee)
Tacoma (by my standards) will be cheaper to mod.

    Cons:
    Another car payment
Jeep Wrangler is not a secure vehicle, if you have a soft top
    No V8 for both
No front locker on the Tacoma (<---not a deal breaker for me)
    Still no Jeep pickup (WTF?)
3rd generation Tacoma is only 2 yrs old, so not proven yet like previous generations
Have to settle for higher trim level to get a manual trans :(

Pros/Cons for keeping my Grand Cherokee:
    No car payment
No means of hauling anything when compared to a pick up
Has a V8 and leather interior.
    No manual transmission
possible repairs on down the road.

I love my Grand, but I think I want a pick up and something newer to drive. I won't mod it like I did my Grand and first TJ, so that's where it's "cheaper" in that area. I mainly want a reliable pickup for practical use that would still be good on the trails. I've also had three Nissans when I was younger (pickup, Pathfinder, and a 200SX), so I can't really rule them out either.

This about sums it up for me. There are times I miss my JKU but since I own a YJ, I still get my Jeep fix from time to time.

Some on this forum have had issues with their 3rd gens. Mine has treated me right so far.

They both hold value. A jeep is a toy, a tacoma is a daily driver.

I was going to say exactly that. Lol! I can't figure out people asking personal preferences to convince them how to like something.

I've had Nissan's as well and they WERE great trucks and SUVs! My pathfinder was bulletproof. But..... times have changed.
Nissan has taken a gradual dive in quality since being purchased/taken over/controlled by Renault, which is a bummer.

Can't say I ever liked much in the way of Nissan's . Older pathfinders and original Xrerra's . Pretty much it. Never got into the Titans or Frontiers .

I had an Xterra the first year they came out. Drove it all over the place and only replaced the battery in the 4 years I owned it. Good times. Other than the weak 170hp engine, it was fun to drive

If you love jeep and want a pickup truck just wait for the new scrambler.
