Look up Atkinson cycle engines. The rest is fairly standard for an ICE vehicle.

Keep in mind this engine only SIMULATES an Atkinson cycle with variable valve timing. Meaning it isn’t Atkinson cycle 24/7 only during predetermined operating conditions such as during idle

You’ll know when it is and isn’t in either mode. Either you will be sucking down gas like it’s free, or you will feel like you’re driving a gutless turd.

    you ain’t gettin both.

Atkinson cycle it simulated using variable valve timing. Although it’s filmed at a junk yard in Russia, no video better explains how Toyota’s variable valve timing works than this one.

Enjoy OP. I found it. When u encounter a word or term u don't understand, Google it and learn about the part / system then return to reading. Lots of good info here. If more people read this we'd get way less dumb questions for the dumbgeon!

I mentioned it a while ago, I was in cannuckistan with no service, this is what I read before bed every night for a week haha. Learned some new shit with Toyotas EVAP sys. I love learning, especially with mechanical contrivances.
