    Hi all.

I only pump until I feel it pressure up. You know the U-joint is full at that point - no need to push it out past the seals.
    - The 3 on the rear shaft take 1 to 2 shots until they pack up.
    - The 2 on the front only take 1/2 shot each.

    Cheers
    Ray.

You should grease until you see clean grease ooze out of all four cap seals.

Thank you gearcruncher for that link.

Jimmyh, is the grease remaining in the U-Joint providing insufficient lubrication and need to be removed?

    This/\

    And this \/

I just did mine at 37,000 and the nasty black, cooked grease that came out must've been there from the factory or not long after....shame that service people aren't honest anymore :(

Old school Coca-Cola uses FTW!

    this ^^^^

Make sure your gun nozzle fitting seats right so the grease flows thru the zerk. I use a gun that works off my air compressor and has a rigid metal tube neck. Sometimes I have to reposition the truck (rotate the rear driveline) to get at the zerks easier. I grease every oil change (5000 miles).

We can count on you for the right info! and thanks for that link.

Don't forget to twerk your zerks everybody. That was entertaining!

Oh, when the hell did U-joints become "zerks?"

    I've never heard this.

They aren't. Zerk is the grease fitting. It so happens to be used on the U-Joints to allow us to grease them.

U-joints aren't zerks. Greasable joints have zerks

It helps to push out the old grease and any dirt that's in there.

As for using coke in cleaning greasy clothing, I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade dealing with this stuff quite frequently. I didn't believe the guy who told me at first until I tried it. Works for other compounds too. Crazy glue, majority of sealants, oil and fuel soaked clothes, and gum.

Best of luck zerking my friend. And make sure you're seeing clean grease coming out past the seals. The objective is to remove all the contaminated grease from your u-joints and replace with fresh grease.

PUMP THE GREASE IN SLOW... you dont want to pop a seal off the cap of your u joints.

Dirt and moisture. Once the old grease breaks down it isn't keeping out water anymore.
