I don't need an air powered grease gun, but I sure do like it. Especially, for greasing those hard to get to zerks. Like getting to those fittings in the middle of the u-joint, while lying on your back, where you can't really see what you're doing. For $20 bucks its not too expensive.

I crawled under my truck today to check out mine and they've obviously not been touched by the dealer. Mine took quite a few pumps to fill and then I gave it another five or six pumps to push out all the old nasty black grease. I was surprised at how much it took to fill them.

Newer Prerunners (2 wheel drive) does in fact have zerks on the drive shaft. Ask me how I know.

Same here...just did my 15,000 mile service yesterday and then crawled under the truck to inspect the rear diff and the driveshaft. zirk nipples were dry. They've probably never touched them since the truck rolled off the production line. I made them take the truck back to the lift and get it right the second time. Pisses me off that you can never trust dealerships(cars and motorcycles) to do what they are supposed to.

I always called them nipples. Just learned this "zerk" word yesterday. LOL

You have recommended grease intervals and I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) you need to grease again if you go into water or mud/dirty road and such.
Maybe not to those words but something to that affect.

Would a single 14oz tube be enough to hit all 5 zerks? I'm approaching 10,000 miles and haven't done this yet, figured it's probably time.

Did this myself for the first time at 48K (had it done by dealer at 30K....hopefully that is). Took all of 10 minutes and most of that time was spent backing up/moving forward little by little to expose that one tricky zero on the front shaft. So easy! I'll be doing every oil change now. FWIW....I used Mobile One grease, mainly because that's what I use for oil, diff & t-case fluids....keep it in the family.

    Getting there...
Should be. I did my 5, plus UCA bushings and still had grease left over.

Then once you have them filled it's easy to just hit them real fast because you just want to see movement from the other-side that ur greasing.Like a half of pump or so.

Damn. I've got 28,000 miles, it's been in 5 times at each 5,000 mile service interval to my dealer and it's obvious from the factory paint and dirty water pushed out that none of the five U joints have ever been greased.

Took maybe 5 minutes max to do all 5. Thank you for this thread.

I'm emailing the service manager and general manager at the dealership to complain.

That will be one the first things that I check.
Was it a Mexico or San Antonio truck?

Great thread checked my 2014 double cab that was just in for it's 10k service and the zerks still had the factory covers on them. Getting my own grease gun and will definitely be greasing them myself. Thanks for all the good info.
