So when they kick in your door they can shoot you with your own shotgun? Nice.

That would be a good solution but code is that a door to the outside must open into the house.

F'ing around or not it's serious business. Picking the wrong house (and the percentage of doing just that are increasing appreciably) gets someone dead, and the owner severely traumatized.
Someone tried to do that to me in Arlington Tx... and was met with a .41 mag and a really pissed off Malemute, plus my g/f with a .357. Turns out it was drunk college kids at the wrong house, but they were educated in the error of their ways.

I dont think it was a joke. Kids make noise to rattle you, an intruder will try to break in on one or two shots and if they can't get in they'll split because they'll know you'll be alerted. Get a shotgun and take classes on learning how to use it for both of you. Shotgun > any handgun for home defense.

we do have a metal door. the impact to the door just transferred to the door frame which gave away.

Next time you hear a donkey kick to the front door, just staple the frame back together with some 5.7mm. oh yea.

That happens when you don't give candies away for halloween....J/K

Once you fix that door jam, install the plates with 3'' screws, specially in the dead bolt. By code you should have it with 3".

well... just having a gun would not have stopped what had happened.
however, if the door had been broken all the way open and people started coming in, then ya, not having a gun would have been a problem.

at the very least, this make me think of getting a baseball bat, a sword, or maybe an axe as a defensive weapon :)

    think about it a moment............
If the door had been broken in and the perps came inside, what weapons would they be carrying...a baseball bat, a sword, or maybe an axe. yea right!
    ARM yourself!
God forbid there would be a next time something of this type would happen again, but if it would you'd be better prepared to defend yourself and your family.
    JUST DO IT!

my 9mm Beretta beats your bat, sword and ax.

this is a scary thread. i just had a new front door installed. i should have explored some reinforcement strategies. i am armed to the gills. but getting to the guns fast enough would have been difficult. i am going to stash a few about the home.

i am also going to install an exterior door on either my bathroom or my bedroom. build up the door jam to force the intruder to have to kick it in with more than a few love taps. he comes into my "safe-room" and he will get 12 gauge buckshot into his soft tissue area. or 9mm..or 45.. he dies. california is an tricky state. my saferoom door will remove all doubt to my legit killing.

This is my worst nightmare someone breaking in my home with me and the family there..thanks for posting this and reminding me to reinforce the my front door!! Anyone have a good website / idea for the back doors, I have french doors and they are worthless, I think just one kick will open those doors.:rolleyes:
Oh by the way checkout www.theclub.com but under home protection they have this pretty nice thing for the front door as protection.
