i know it wont stop the door from being beat down but IMHO you could have a .22 and put one shot in the ceiling and i figure most people are gonna turn around and run

Keep in mind, they have rights too...You can't just shoot them. However, if you do, try to get a frontal shot, and drag them in at least 2 feet in the house. Its more cleaner in court.

Maybe an explanantion of my double wide trailer is in order.

I have my study which is right next to my front door. Behind the double doors to my study I keep a 12 gauge shotgun and a 30-06 rifle. Someone breaking into my house would not notice the weapons very easily but if I am in my study which I am most of the time, both weapons are in arms reach....

While all of the guns suggested in the previous posts would help once someone gets into your house , would it not be better to keep them on the outside ?

Not actually a good idea. Most door hinges would place the hing pins on the outside that way. Plus, its against most building codes.

 

so, the maintenance guys "fixed" the door. however, they really did a piss-poor job on the work. the frame and trim they put back up is all crooked, there are blatant seams where their cuts didnt match, they didnt even measure and trim the framing; they just slapped it up there. they also left dirty finger prints in the areas that they repainted.

oh well, we dont own the place so whatever.
but i did get them to buy a better strike plate. they use 9, 4" screws drilled into the buildings frame. this should hold up better:

 

^^nice invest in a nice 20 gauge shot gun. I have mine loaded next to the bed.

no. infact, the door rubs against the strike plate so you have to give it a good push and pull to close and open the door.

 

hopefully its not kids, cause thats a good way to get shot. i've got a shotty loaded up with 00 buck. if that happened to me i dont even think i'd look, i'd just shoot through the door.

 

That install is a bit of a hack job , but you will definitely be more secure .
