That is a great addition to the hoseclamp. IMO the best mod you can do for the money.

Also a suggestion to all you can simply drill off the head of the hose clamp so a thief can simply unscrew the clamp.

Good idea Jason! I know its pretty permanent, but I know my gate is never going to need to come off for any reason.

Semi permanent, if you ever need to get the tail gate off drill the rest of the head off and the clamp will pop off. :)

After watching Chris' anti theft video, I put TWO clamps on, removed the keys, then squirted caulk in the threads, making it much harder to unscrew the clamps...just in case. The washers on the cables are a good idea too.

That washer mod is a great idea. I didn't use a hose clamp, but I used a few wraps of stainless steel wire in place of the hose clamp. It is not as noticeable, but is pretty secure. The wire is tight enough so that there is no way to cut it quickly.

I didn't see if anyone responded to the size of the torx, so I if any one is interested it is a T-40.

I think that there are probably many 07' and older Tacomas that have bent tailgates. Toyoto reinforced the tailgates because of the bending issue, I believe in 07'. Stealing a tailgate is cheaper than buying one.

Is it just Toyota tailgaits getting ripped off or do all truck owners have this happen? All the Chevy's I have owned were real easy to take the tailgates off but never heard of people stealing them.

The Torx screw is already on the truck. The washer keeps the support cable from being slipped off.

MarlaSinger, all they did was add the black washer. that cable comes off very easily without it.

yeah no doubt! Lets get this right - he paid $1,800 but will take just about anything for it??
We should all send him an email offering him cool electronic stuff to trade. I have a 52" 3D LED TV that the store won't take back I paid $4,000 for it but will trade it for the Tacoma tailgate.
