It's getting a bit late for me so it's possible I'm somehow missing it, but I'm not seeing it Bill.... the link goes to your post, and on page 89, where post 1764 is, is a post from george3 that says this:

I even did a search for 'overhead console' in the thread and nothing came up. :(

Well, the link goes to my post, where I wanted it to.

However, the number should have been 1754. My bad for the confusion.

My suggestion doesn't 'fix' homelink, it just makes an alternative where you don't have to fix it, or for those of use who aren't equiped with it to begin with.

It's no wonder your post made no sense to me last evening, because I had no idea what homelink was. Duh. I should have recognized the damn remote pix in your post at least, jeez. That is an interesting mod! I wonder, how far away does the signal pick up from it's place behind the dash, though? From above the mirror I can get a response at the garage door from a couple of hundred feet (Living out in flat country has few perks, but this is one of them. :D), so when I finally roll up to the garage, the door is 3/4 or fully open.

About 2/3 of whatever it works from on the visor.

And the button can go anywhere you want to run wire to. Wouldn't be hard to put it overhead. Replace the broken homelink button with a piece of aluminum, or epoxy the homelink to be rigid, then drill and mount the new switch.
