That would be the VSV allowing vacuum modulation of the fuel pressure regulator, ECM controlled.
Most V6 engines did not have it. Exactly which ones did is vague. Seems to be the earlier years and/or EGR engines.

It's also been suggested that Ca emissions had something to do with it.
The thing is next to useless and many ditch it.
Funny thing is the FSM kept referencing "testing" it till the end of 1st gen production, long after it was retired.

Im blind lol. Ok so I have a line missing from PWM-Vacuum switching valve, and the line that is supposed to go to it from near throttle body just dives down and hits another switching valve and then splits off into two, down somewhere deep. Guessing Brakes/brake booster? I need to cap off the other throttle body nipple, and then figure out how to get that hose to the aftermarket/K&N airfilter. Not sure what the 'with A/C' dotted line means though, what model doesnt have A/C or am I missing something?

But you still have a hose there, which aids my confusion. Is anything not showing in diagram that is A/C related in between the front nippe and the airbox? My ac hasnt been checked with gauges yet but isnt really working well.

AC was not "standard equipment" on every model.

The "with AC" bit is a stand alone system known as "idle up". Similar in theory to the power steering "idle up".
When the AC compressor is running the VSV allows a tad more air into the intake slightly boosting idle speed. Later years did this electronically via the ECM.

Ah ok, I'll assume that just means everything is already wired up to A/C and theres no extra hoses besides those shown. I am curious about why the PWM hose splits off differently from the diagram, hits a switch and then two hoses go down under the engine somewhere.
